Mccullough was 7'0 and nearly 300 pounds. The guy was slow as an ox. Kaman is much more leaner and agile than Mccullough. He's about the same size as Murphy and Miller. I've seen him chase down loose balls and make some fairly impressive dunks and blocks.
I didn't pay, I use bugmenot. Doesn't seem like the analysis is anything special. But I think you also get ESPN the Magazine, so maybe that makes it worthwhile.
I would go crazy if we got the chance to draft Felton! He's obviously shown he has the ability to run a team with extremely talented players, and I think he can score more than he did at UNC. No way it's going to happen, but I think May or Felton would be great fits for the Rockets... but there is just a touch of homer there being I'm a huge Heels fan.
Living here in the Greater LA area, I watched Kaman played a lot. He does not have the outside shot like Murphy or Miller but does have a nice hook shot from the baseline. Assuming that we are going to resign Deke, why would you want Kaman on this team?
I like his intensity next to Yao. He's an aggressive player that can do the dirty work, get some rebounds, block some shots, hit a jumper when left open, and occasionally post up. He's the type of big man that I think would fit well at the 4 or backup 5 on this team.
Only I don't think he will be able to keep up with all the PFs in the West. Kaman may not be slow for centers but he lacks quickness to guard most of the 4s.
I'd hope that we would take Jack over Felton. Jack's a winner and he plays D. I don't see Felton being able to D up with the bigger, stronger point guards. I think Jack is one of the top 3 PGs in this draft, right there with Paul and D. Williams.
Don't kid yourself, Felton will be a good pro. You mention Jack as one of the "top 3 PG's" in your eyes---kind of ironic since Felton actually is a natural PG and Jack isn't. In regards to Chris Wilcox, you would have to think he's available. Him in Clipperland hasn't made sense from the start and the situation and logic behind the move has only gotten worse. What good does it do them to "hide" a 22-year-old talent like that on the bench?
I would love to have Wilcox on the team. he's got great size, athleticism and rebounding ability. a decent scorer but he's a good young player that we could really use.
Simmons is solid. But not a good fit on the Rockets. Tmac is our 3. That would put Simmons at the 2 spot and I dont think he has the quickness to guard 2s primarily. Just not a good fit.
They both played the 3. Maggette was hurt, that's how Simmons got minutes and produced. I like him too, but I'm not convinced he's quick enough to guard 2s.
The only reason Van Gundy prefers Mcgrady to play the 3 is so he can conserve energy so he can concentrate on offense. With Bobby Simmons here to carry the load on offense, Mcgrady doesn't have to conserve energy on defense anymore. He wouldn't be asked to do everything on offense like he does now. Therefore, having Mcgrady chase around 2 guards would not be that big a deal anymore. I think people are getting a little carried away with the whole "Mcgrady can only play the 3" talk. You don't pass up on someone as young and as talented as Simmons. If Kobe can play the 2, Mcgrady can play the 2.
That would be some sweet fast breaks, McGrady and Simmons runing the wings, and and both offer the height for increased perimeter rebounding. JVG could teach Simmons defense, the Rox perimeter D would be unstoppable!
Juxtaposing this phrase with Tracy McGrady is just kind of funny. Simmons is a sub 10 ppg scorer for his career, and is coming off his best season in which he scored 16 ppg. He averaged 3 more ppg than Jim Jackson did for us before he was traded playing for a much poorer team. I don't think anyone will deny there are more stud 2s in the league than stud 3s. Theoretically: a.) Tracy has a greater advantage vs. 3s. b.) Tracy will face fewer tough matchups allowing him more reign. c.) Because of scarcity, acquiring a good talent that is a shooting guard is easier than at small forward. I don't think people are saying "McGrady can only play the 3." It's just that's where JVG wants him.
Joe Johnson's numbers his first couple of seasons in the league were very similar to Simmons his first couple of seasons. Sometimes it just takes players time. When a player shoots at such an efficient percentage as Simmons did, rarely is it just a fluke. This is not just some player chucking up a bunch of shots on a bad team. Mcgrady is always going to be matched up against the other teams best perimeter defender, regardless of if he plays the 3 or the 2. At least with Simmons on this team, we would have someone that could punish the other team for putting their best defender on Mcgrady. Just look at how much Ray Allen benefits from having someone like Rashard Lewis playing next to him. Moving Mcgrady back to the 2 may have some negatives, but I think if the Rockets had a chance at getting someone like Simmons, the positives would far outweigh the negatives.
