If Backe was ready to pitch today, then why don't you skip Rodriguez? We're just wasting Backe now - we've already lost this game. Why did Rodriguez ever start? When you have a day off, skip your #5 starter.
Just noticed the game today is on national TV, I paused before switching to the game. I thought, how bad could it already be. My answer was 9-1 Cardinals. Yikes!
Im not too upset about losing this series because the Cards IMO are the best team in baseball and could be better than that National League Champion team last season.
I've just about given up on Jason Lane. I hope Burke fulfills more of his promise than Lane has so far. He had a good first month of the year, but he's been pretty bad since then. They said on the broadcast that 4 of his 5 HRs were off the Reds and 3 of those 4 were off of Paul Wilson. Had a great chance to get the game closer with a hit while the bases were loaded and ended up with a GIDP.
Astros should bring up their second round pick last year, outfielder Hunter Pence. He is a stud in single A but he can't be any worse than Todd Self or Jason Lane. His current stats are .338 BA, 20 hr, 44 RBI, and a .415 OBP. I understand why they won't bring him up but a least promote the guy to AA, what else does he have to prove at single A. He is kind of old at 21 so I don't understand Tim once again.
That was heartbreaking . I mean I know it wasnt gonna turn the season around , but it would have lifted the players spirits a bit IMO .
Charlie Pallilo was going off on this after he spoke with Tim Purpura. I agree, let's get him to AA ball and speed up the process.
The way the Astros bring up players he won't get a shot to crack the roster until he is 28. He's real young (21) and has a chance to get much better but with the season already in the grave why not bring him up and give him a shot now. He could be the power they are looking for from their corner outfielders.
First of all, its because he's not on the 40 man roster. If you want him on the big-league club, you'd have to cut somebody (its not as easy as sending them to the minors... they'd have to clear waivers to be taken off that 40 man roster during the season). Second of all, the only reason the organization was so slow to promote players in the past was because of the players we had in the big leagues at the time. Burke hasn't played, even though he was probably ready before last year, because of Biggio and Kent. Hidalgo was a super prospect for a good 2 years, but he couldn't crack the outfield because of Alou and C. Everett. Berkman only got a real shot in 2000, and a lot of that had to do w/ the fact we were out of contention. Then 2001 came and he exploded again. The same went for Wade Miller in 2000, and Oswalt in 2001... they were called up out of neccesity, not because the organization felt they were ready. Now, since we're struggling, the MO changes. You will see Pence getting a promotion to advanced A or AA by the end of this year. And if he's able to hit in AA, he might find a way on the club when the rosters expand in September.
guess this can be chalked up as a loss....3 runs....that's a HUGE gap to get back with our bats. Sorry....I'm mad that the freakin Rangers are on my tv and not stros. I haven't seen a stros game in over a week.
Yep, he is getting hotter and hotter. Morgan just hit a double, which would have been a HR in any other park (minus Miami). (missed it by inches)
6-4 good guys! Lane RBI single, Morgan scores. CHOOOO CHOOOOOO. (thank god for 1150am the ZONE. ) EDIT: WOW! Willy is now 3-3 tonight! Clemens to 2nd, Willy to first! Another infield hit! This guy is FAST. Moulder done. Cards bullpen now. BOoooooo! Anyways...enough with my "pbp".....just hoping for a BIG inning for da Stros! EDIT EDIT: BOOOO Berkman....
