I've been reading some interesting trade scenarios and wanted to combine them into one thread to make it easier to read.

One of the prime are for the Rockets is to upgrade the PG. There are no Steve Nash and Tony Parker and Jason Kidds available in our prize range. Last year Rockets tried real hard for Derek Fisher but could not match/beat Warrior's offer. Now with the Baron Davis trade, GS would definitely like to move him and will have to sweeten the deal for anyone to pick up on Fisher's contract. I propose two possible scenarios for Rockets/Warrior trade:

    1) Expiring Contracts of Wesley+Ward for Fisher+Pietrus

    or

    2) Wesley+our 24th Pick for Fisher+Warrior's # 9 pick.

In both the trades Warriors get cap relief and we get a true (although over prized) PG and either Pietrus who has a great upside or #9 pick.
If we end up getting the #9 pick we can either trade it with an expiring contract to portland for Darius Miles or to Lakers for Caron Butler or to Memphis for Mike Miller+#19 or we can hold on to it, draft the best player available and add him to sweeten the potential trade for SAR/Swift.
Now if we can sign A Daniels for the MLE (or by a sign and trade) we will have a nice combo of legitimate PGs and having Pietrus/#9 pick would improve our 2/3/4 needs one way or the other. Makes sense?

There have been a couple threads detailing the types of teams to target.
Portland- My top target. They want to rebuild and have a ton of contracts. Guys like Derek Anderson, Darius Miles, Ruben Patterson, Theo Ratliff, and maybe even Zach Randolph can all probably be had. They also have a trio of free agents the Rockets may be interested in with SAR, NVE, and Stoudamire. A free agent plus a bad contract was a sign and trade model last summer (Jamal Crawford plus Jerome Williams). I would be giddy with a SAR+Darius Miles for expiring contracts and a maybe a pick type deal.
Sacramento- KT could probably be had pretty cheap, question is does he fit.

Memphis- Primarily Jason Williams. I can't see them getting much better offers for JWill than something like Wesley and Ward straight up. Question is, would we want to do it?

Indiana- 74 million committed next year, over 60 the year after. We'll see what they want to do with Artest. They'd probably love to get rid of Croshere and/or Bender at this point. Fred Jones and Jeff Foster are reasonably priced assets.

Washington- A little deceptive. Only around 40 mill committed next year, but that's before paying for Hughes and possibly Kwame. Could possibly get Etan Thomas.

*Lakers are an interesting case. They need to rebuild- they've got 51 mill committed in 2006-2007, but over half of that is to Odom and Grant. Suppose you could take the Odom+Grant package for our expiring contracts and Howard. If you want to dreamcast, there's your scenario.

I really like Pietrus. Could you imagine having him, TMac, and AD all on the floor together on the defensive end? That's the kind of quickness and athelticism we need to surround Yao with to choke off penetration. Now just imagine adding Dmiles to that mix to match up with the fun and gun teams like Phoenix and getting one more credible big such as Ratliff to play guys like Duncan. I don't think it is possible but if it were, I don't see anybody being able to beat that team. I'd love to see those guys on the defensive end. Shoot, even having Fish at the point on defense playing alongside TMac and Peitrus would be a lot of fun to watch. Fish ain't no slouch on the defensive end. He always gave Steve fits.

Pietrus is gonna be special...... didnt he go bananas against us the last game we played against them? I think the Warriors look at him as their future 3. They wont part with him, even in a deal to get rid of Fisher.

I still remember the way he used to manhandle Francis defensively. He'd play him physically and Steve would get frustrated and lose his focus.

It seems like we are set at SF and C.
We are decent at the other positions, but not great.
We lack quality depth at C (after MtM goes), PF, SF and SG(when Barry goes).

    Our untradeable assets:
    Yao
    TMac

Our prime tradeable assets but might have more value to us:
    #1 pick
Juwan - decent player with a medium salary with several years left on it.
Wesley - decent player with medium expiring salary
Sura - decent player with low salary

    And, our prime trade material:
    TE
Expiring contracts of Moochie/Baker/Spoon 13.25, and ward 1.7

So, who can we get? We can either send expiring contracts alone or we can add a mediocre player to expiring contracts for a high dollar player. But, where do we find that deal? Most teams would rather deal for another position when they do that.

    So, what about:
Juwan Howard and expiring contracts of Moochie/Baker/Spoon
    for
    Desmond Mason, Booth and JSmith

Salaries match. The bucks might do this for 2 reasons; if they take Marvin Williams at number 1 then Desmond will impede his growth and they get contracts that expire in one year instead of two (which is a big deal for them since they are looking at resigning Redd for big bucks).
We would get an athletic SG that could cover SFs. It would make our backcourt deep and provide what seemed to be missing in the playoffs. The drawback is that we lose our best PF (we would really need to sign donyell for the MLE then) and replace him with two backups (but either one might be the long term answer at the backup pf/c positions). Still, Desmond would be out 3rd best player so it might be a good deal.

    - - - -
    OR, a crazy deal - -
Portland has a few bad contracts - we take them in exchange for a high draft pick. Still, Portland would want to deal down because the #3 pick is too high. So they could deal #3 for #7 and #16, then deal #7 plus players below for #24, a future #1 and players below.
OR, deal #3 and #24 (from us) for #5 and #13.

    Salary match: TRatliff+DAnderson=Wesley+Spoon+VBaker+Mooch+Ward
    - so what do they give us to do the deal

Portland would do this because they lose two huge long contracts for expiring contracts.
Combine this deal with a SAR sign and trade for another expiring contract and Portland could end up with over 30 mil in expiring contracts.
I would like to see this one: SAR and player (like miles or patterson) in a S&T for one of NYK large expiring contracts (penny 14 or TThomas 12.2) and another player and draft picks.

The most absurd dreamcast of all:

Ward, Howard, Clarence, Wesley and Mooch for

    Brand, Maggette and Wilcox.

Its good to have a dream!

    Whatever.....
