I've pretty much decided to get a Blackberry or similar cell phone/PDA for myself. I'm out of the office a lot lately and, while being away from the phone isn't that big of a deal (that's what voicemail is for), being away from email is disconcerting at times.

I don't care about all the bells and whistles. I really just want something that allows me to send/receive emails.

I currently have T-Mobile (it's a company account so we won't be switching to another service) and I know I can add their service for like $5 per month. But, I want to find the best deal on one of these.

Any suggestions will be helpful. Thanks!

Without doing any type of research into the subject, here is my info :)

Foley's is offering some sort of deal for a free Blackberry (after mail-in rebates) as long as you commit to a two year deal for about $75 a month.

Just a heads up, not a recommendation.

One thing I've noticed is that you can get one for free or for $50 if you activate a new line of service, something I do NOT need. I'm wondering what they'll do if I extend my contract.

When does your contract ends? If it ends soon, you can call and tell them if they don't give you one of those new phones for free or cheap, you are going to switch.

Not soon enough. This is a business contract for the company, so nothing is changing for a couple years. I like the Sidekick thing.

While that is true, to get instand email download like blackberrys on the treo 650 you have to get another service like goodlink... which charges a monthly fee.

Or else you could get something like chatter mail which is cheap but not as good.

If you don't need a crazy sweet PDA, then you don't need to drop $500 on a treo 650

Let me say this...there is NO frickin' way I'm spending $500. I don't even think I'll spend $200. I know some of you guys are big time gadget geeks, but I'm not. My current cell phone is the freebie Nokia that came with the plan. It is beat all to hell from me dropping it. I've never owned a PDA and never really wanted one.

I like gadgets, but I'm not dropping a ton of money on something that has all kinds of cool stuff on it when all I really want is to be able to read my email from anywhwere without a laptop. I don't even care if it is a color screen.

I'll take whatever works for the least amount of money. :)

    Jeff-

I don't what your policy is on eBay, but I bought my SmartPhone off of eBay. It was a $500 device, which I bought for $225. I've had it for about 6 months now, and not a single issue. So you may want to look at eBay, of course research and caution have to used.

I've bought and sold TONS of things on there. I guess my only concern with stuff like this is that I know so little about them. It's one thing with music gear where I know what to look for. But, I'll definitely give it a try. Thanks.

I have a Samsung e317 and my service is with Cingular. I am able to access my POP3 email with it and love having that capability. The only thing that I had to do was use Cingulars SMTP server instead of the one that I have with my email account. I would check out Tmobile phones that may also have this capability.

If your going ot be using it for business do not get a sidekick, because you cant get corporate email on there, nor can you open up spreadsheet attachtments. Ive had the small Blackberry 7100t for about 2 months, and I love it. I had the sidekick 2 for about a year, it was ok. Get the grownmans phone and go for the blackberry.
