you must mean in 1998 because i remember watching us lose to the jazz sitting in a hotel room in iowa for some math competition from hell that happened at the end of school which would be right around now, the start of june.

and i remember seeing "he got game" at a uil competition trip during the school year which made the threesome scene a little weird since our coach and one of the guy's parents were watching it with us.

upon looking, msn says he got game opened may 1, 1998 and apparently we lost game 5 to the jazz on may 3rd, 1998 so the premiere and loss may have been the same for that series.

    either way, maloney sucked.

seriously, and for role players. cato's amount wasn't really that horrible, it was locking him up for 6 years that sucked. same with moochie, same with maloney (hell it was only a few mill a year, hardly out of line for a then good 3 point shooter who could somewhat play). even mo's amount wouldn't have been the worst thing in the world if it was for 3 years or so. i don't know what we were thinking. as if role players don't just come and go. locking up the francis', mobleys, tmacs, and yao's of the world makes sense but not the maloneys, catos, and taylors of the world. at least we are basically free of them now and have turned them into expiring contracts at this point.

Exactly. I didn't mind the amount per year... it was the duration. I mean did Rudy really think this guy would be able to stick around on an NBA roster for 6 years?!

I think Rudy and CD were following a stability theory. They figured that giving out long contracts would give the players peace of mind that they'd be around and they can just worry about basketball. And, since roster movement would be low with the long contracts, the guys could really develop some chemistry. The philosophy is a bit flawed, I think, but Rudy's real downfall was that Dream's health failed him prematurely. Since everything revolved around him, the long contracts suddenly became real liabilities because they hampered flexibility.

And, I'm calling bs on the Maloney meeting because there are no pictures. rockHEAD rule, people! :p

so ur saying (or the guy that you were responding to was saying) that maloney was here in Houston 2 hours after we lost the 1998 series vs. the Jazz in Game 5 (which was played IN Utah)?? Cuz I would think that a flight from Utah to Houston would last more than 2 hours or so...

We lost that game in HOUSTON. John Stockton hit the 3 pointer over Charles Barkley. Nice try though.

Still, it doesn't fit. Say a game time of 7:30 pm, that game must have ended no earlier then 10:00pm. Then, factor in fact that they probably had plans to fly immediately back to Utah in case they one....Malonely would make back-up plans in case they lost?

Figure that after the loss, first thing is a long pep-talk with the team as everyone is depressed. 10:20pm. Then they gotta shower and all. 10:45pm. By the time they got out of the summit, figure 11:00 pm.

Even if someone picked him up and took him directly to the premier....maybe what....11:30pm by then?

Sounds fishy....I don't buy the story...sorry. No food, no time to sulk, no time to do anything but rush to get to some movie premier? Like anyone really cares about movie premiers?
