I was reading the thread about getting Rockets' autographs, and it made me think of this: Who's the most famous person you've ever met? For me, it'd be Weird Al Yankovic . . . met him in San Antonio after a concert. We were able to weasle our way into the green room after the show, and we got to sit and talk with him for like 10 minutes. It was awesome. ------------------ What can change the nature of a man?
uma thurman, drew barrymore, and recently, james king -- not the most famous but certainly a nice triumverate ------------------ oh, and farrah fawcett [This message has been edited by kissofdeath (edited February 28, 2001).]
I've met a TON of musicians and quite a few athletes including Hakeem, but the most famous would have to be Billy Joel. My wife says her most famous is Allen Ginsberg. ------------------ "You know what they say about the music business. Here today, gone TODAY! - Chris Rock at the MTV Music Video Awards
Stevie Ray Vaughn at Love Field back in the mid-'80s (when he was still relatively unknown. As a matter of fact, he kept walking up and down the concourse carrying his guitar case, and no one bothered him except me. Wish I had thought to get his autograph). I've also met Jack Kemp (at DFW Airport. Airports are good places to run into people, apparently) and got his autograph. I met George W. Bush at a Bar-B-Que when he was running for Governor in 1994 (didn't bother getting his autograph). And I met Walter Koenig (Chekov from Star Trek) at Universal Studios when I was ten or eleven (got an autograph and my picture taken with him). And when I worked for the Amarillo Dillas, we had Todd Burns under contract (formerly of the Athletics) and Lonnie Maclin, too, but he's not famous (though he did play for the St. Louis Cardinals for about a week. Oh, and I saw Katrina and the Waves at the San Antonio Airport, but I didn't go talk to them or anything. They were pretty well mobbed (this was 1985 when you could mention Katrina and the Waves and people actually knew who you were talking about). And Martha Quinn. I met her when she came to Amarillo College for the Distinguished Lecture Series (don't ask me why she was chosen for the Distinguished Lecture Series). We got to hang around "back stage" and get autographs and all that. It was mildly cool. And finally, I hung out with Frankie Banali of Quiet Riot (and the bassist. Not Rudy Sarzo, but that Chuck guy) at Ralph's Records and Tapes back in 1993 or early '94, but that was more sad than anything else. They were on tour and playing in places like Midnight Rodeo. Frankie kept haggling prices on stuff at the record store he wanted to buy, and then he asked if anyone could give him a ride to a toy store. He just came across as sort of pathetic and probably pretty broke (but that was just my impression. It could be way off. I don't know what Frankie's true financial situation was or is.) And, of course, I met several NFL owners in Chicago during the NFL expansion thing last year. (I actually spoke with Irsay, Red McCombs, and Al Davis that I recall off hand. Bud Adams nearly ran over me. I was just standing there, and his big fat butt comes barrelling through without regard for who's in front of him. And I spoke with Eli Broad and Ed Roski, very briefly, as well as what's-his-name from ESPN. John Clayton. Said maybe three words to him). But they aren't so much famous. I don't know which of those would be considered the "most" famous. Personally, I'm going to go with Maclin because I know him best. ------------------ Houston Sports Board The Anti-Bud Adams Page
Oh, and I've exchanged emails with Jeff and Clutch, two people who have been mentioned in Sports Illustrated. ------------------ Houston Sports Board The Anti-Bud Adams Page
Probably Henry Kissinger... or Ted Kennedy. Vengeance: Odd thing, I've also met Weird Al Yankovic. My girlfriend works at Godiva Chocolates (great deals for me!) and I was up there to meet her for dinner, and he walked in and bought 2lbs of praline cascades. ------------------ Why is it that everytime BC defeats a major conference opponent, that opponent promptly goes on a losing streak? I have actually been one lucky guy. I see alot of famous athletes and stars alot when Im out. Alot of basketball players I have meet. Probably most famous has to be meeting John Travolta and Britney Spears. ------------------ "Break off the block like Maurice Green" --- Steve Francis President of the Moochie Norris fan club.
Francis3: I've been told by others that have met Britney Spears that she looks *incredibly* fake.... her face is practically orange witha ll the make-up. >Paul Rodriquez, FUNNY AS SH**!!!! This guy is a non-stop attention fiend even in real life! (oh, it was my brothers birthday party in L.A. and his wifes' friend is Pauls' girlfriend/baby-momma) >Back in the late 80's Michael Jordan slapped my hand on the way into the tunnel at the Summit.(Pippen missed the second freethrow and MJ came outta nowhere to slamma-jamma it and the win!DAOOOOH!) >I saw Chuck Barkley at Tonic Lounge and shouted a drunkerdly and beligerently,"Yo Chuck, everyone wants a piece of you!" (Not sure if that counts) >Francesco Clemente...mega-famous Italian artist. He was here to work on an opera and I knew the artistic director at the time. Hes a funny guy always wearing his suit. I gave him a drawing, he gave me nothing. ------------------ Whatever you want to do, you have to do something else first.
mrpaige--that Frankie Banali story rocks! Hilarious stuff. I can't believe you never participate in any of the music threads (maybe you have, and I just don't remember). Like rockHEAD, the only famous person I've met would probably be GLENN DANZIG. He was cool, too. Autographed my ticket.
All the Nuggets, numerous players from other teams (Suns, Lakers, Heat, Wolves, Mavericks, Clippers, etc.). Mike Shanahan of the Broncos. That's the athletes. Musicians, I've met (and played with) Bobby Shue (jazz trumpet). Briefly met McCoy Tyner, Jamie Abersold and a few others. However, the highlight so far was meeting (and playing with) legendary jazz drummer Louis Bellson. Anyone who's a jazz fan knows him, and knows his reputation. It's 100% correct. He is BY FAR the nicest man I have ever met. He played with our band last year (when I was in HS) and a week later, I ran into him at the UNC jazz festival (where he was also performing) and he remembered my name and asked how we (our band) performed. Incredible man. ------------------ Nuggets4 The Pinnacle - Proof that Rivals.com Isn't COMPLETELY Evil! http://www.NugsPinnacle.com

I am not a big fan of autographs and really wouldnt go out of my way to talk to a famous person. However, one time walking thru the Galleria I saw two familiar looking guys sitting on a bench looking at some CDs. They ended up being Vince Neil and Nikki Sixx of Motley Crue (very cool guys). They had just bought some new CDs and sat there and shot the **** with me and some friends for awhile. I have run into a few celebs, especially when I lived in LA.... but I only had one run into me. While enjoying a nice day down at the coast I got rear-ended by Judge Joseph Wapner. Senile old man ------------------ "Her Box Started Buzzing Ever Since She Heard The CRÜE"
I met James Hetfield at a Metallica concert one time.... I was starstruck, couldn't think of a damn thing to say. Thankfully, it was very loud, and my silence might have just been construed as passivity (sp?). I also met Calvin Murphy, Steve Francis (at San Jac), and Sam Cassell (at San Jac). ------------------ "all your base are belong to us!" "you have no chance to survive make your time!"
fame fame wise or the coolest person that meant the most to me? If it's the latter: Tony Hawk, Matt Hensley, Tina Basich, Jeremy Jones, J.P. Walker, Jason Brown, Dave Downing, etc. But in SLC, that's kind of cheating b/c tons of the pros live here. I also spoke to CD and Rudy T at the review last year. I saw Jeff Hornacek at the Barbacoa on 45th and 23rd. Oh yeah, I met Strom Thurmond when he was in his early 80s. LOL. ------------------
I've met my share of athletes and celebs but Bark would have to be the most famous. Oh yeah and once I saw a blimp. ------------------ Ceo of the Walt Williams and Lisa Malosky fan club. atheistalliance.org
