so I was driving through an unfamiliar neighborhood today and got completely bamboozled by a phantom school zone.

    my first ticket ever..

so now the question becomes, how do you deal with these damn things?

I'm scheduled to appear in court and all that, but I plan on saying nuts to that and doing defensive driving to get it dismissed.. (online, etc) A friend of mine also said something about deffered adjudication where they do something where if you don't get a ticket for 30/60/90 days then your ticket is dismissed and you only pay a small fine.. anyone have any information/feedback on that?

If its your first ticket then just do defensive driving. It will probably cost the same as paying the ticket but atleast it wont go on your record. Deffered adjudication is often used if you got another ticket and have already taken defensive driving (I think you can take defensive driving once per year only to dismiss a ticket).

I have an attorney that handles traffic/small claims and has an awesome success rate.

I think the amount of time/money it would cost me to get an attorney and fight the case (I really have no argument though, other than it was an honest mistake) would probably far outweight the cost/time of defensive driving.

Usually I get mail from attorneys offering their services for only $75 or so, and the vast majority of their clients have their tickets dismissed.

Why would you want to take a chance with attorneys though if you can still use defensive driving and the probation thing..
What if you hire an attorney and loose. Then you gotta pay the attorney fee, court fee, ticket fee and it will go on your record.

When you get busted for going 76 in a 45 and don't qualify for defensive driving and your insurance rates go up, you might have a different opinion.

Hire a Lawyer to fight it for you. I know it sounds like a waste of money but you will be glad you did. It will cost you about the same as your insurance will go up for the year, but it's better than three years of jacked up rates.

Why not? I've done it twice and it was very convenient and I had no problems getting the tickets dismissed.

Contact the court and ask to reschedule your court date. When the cop fails to show, you're off the hook.
