Talks Of A Nowitzki Deal Blowing In The Wind

The Chicago Tribune - Steve Nash was let go by the Mavericks after last season's disappointing end and now there are rumors floating about in regards to a Dirk Nowitzki trade this off-season.

So where could the Mavericks potentially deal Dirk Nowitzki according to Sam Smith?

One possibility is a Garnett, Cassell and Sprewell deal while also making the Mavs take Troy Hudson and his long contract for Nowitzki, Terry, promising rookie Devin Harris, Jerry Stackhouse and perhaps a throw-in or two like rookie Pavel Podkolzin and a No. 1 draft pick?

A Garnett for Nowitzki type deal might work, however, it could lead to a revolt in Minnesota.

Interesting trade that could be brewing. I personally don't want another great big man in Texas. This also pretty much proves how badly Dirk bombed in this playoffs that they would even think about trading him. Why Minnesota would even think about trading KG is beyond me. Certainly not for Nowitzki. It would be their mistake if they did that one.

Oh God, please no! KG and Mark Cuban would be a disasterous situation for the Rockets, Spurs, and every other Western Conf team that has hopes of making it big.

Keep KG in Minny where they can't, and never will, surround him with great enough talent to win it all. If he is in Dallas with Cuban's deep pockets, Dallas would win championships for years to come.

Still, I don't think this trade is ever doable on Minnesota's side, because KG is just sooo popular up there and is the only reason why they are able to put azzez in the seats. KG in Minny is what AI is in Philly, the public would riot if either one is traded.

Dirk played KG a few years ago and destroyed him. KG is just over-rated, even compared to the flopper.

Lol man, you are really overreacting and you have it backwards. When Houston gets the right talent around Yao and McGrady there is nothing San Antonio or Dallas will be able to do to stop us. KG has never given Yao or McGrady problems so why would you make strong statements like that? Well, anyway, calm down man. KG in Dallas would be interesting but all we have to do is get the right talent for our people and we will beat them certainly after looking at this year how Yao and McGrady played.

I hope this deal doesn't go through.

    Dallas doesn't deserve KG.

And Dallas never gets too deep into the playoffs, because they have a totally different team every year. Mark Cuban needs to learn that he can't buy a championship.

I can't imagine Dallas doing this deal. They would be giving up their three best players (Dirk, Stackhouse, Terry) plus a good young PG (and maybe a first round pick) for Garnett and three old, overpaid guards.

So Dallas would have Cassell, Spree, Finley (max contract), Dumpier, Hudson. As a rockets fan, I don't mind that deal going down. :D

Am I the only one who sees this as last year's Mavs team becoming Minnesota's, and last year's T-wolves team becoming Dallas'?

They might as well do a clean trade of all 12 guys... cause none of the other ones really matter. I guess the coaches stay intact... but why not trade those as well... along w/ the trainers.

Not you JusBleezy, but Sam Smith / RealGM prove this is a classic example of how rumors get started.

Sam Smith pulled this out of his ass... and even says so:

"No one has said either team is interested, but..."

Then RealGM says "there are rumors floating around about in regards to a Dirk Nowitzki trade this off-season" and then intros Smith's fantasy deal as "One possibility is...".

Cue the 12-year olds with "Any new word on Dirk for KG?"

Now with that said, it's certainly interesting to speculate about.... I certainly hope Dallas doesn't look in to that route because they would be much more defensive-oriented. T-Mac isn't going to shutdown KG, for example. Looks like Dallas would get older in that scenario and though Cuban loves to tinker and then some, I can't see him dealing Dirk (yet).

Finley is the one that really broke down ... when he played well, they won .... when he wasn't a factor, they seemed to lose. He's getting a little older too, though I wouldn't say "done". Given that he was standing in Minnesota when he knocked the ball out of Jon Barry's hands, I think he'd do well with the Timberwolves.

According to Cuban atleast, the Lakers wouldn't discuss a Shaq deal with the Mavs... that there was never any discussion. But:

    a) The Lakers would have been crazy to not listen to a possibility that included Dirk.
    b) Cuban was not likely to offer Dirk, but rather try to pry Shaq away without losing him.

Cuban is more than likely covering his butt there, but that's what he says and is very defensive about it.

Basketballwise, it might actually be a good move for both franchises to trade say KG for Dirk + Daniels or Harris + 1st.

Minn goes in rebuilding mode with the more individually offensively potent superstar two years younger to build around plus another young guard with promise plus another late 1st.

Dallas becomes a more serious titled contender as KG can make better use of a support cast of Terry, Finley, Howard, Damp, Stack, Daniels/Harrs, etc and make them much tougher defensively. After Dirk going after Damp and Terry it might much improve chemistry too.

Not saying it will happen, but I think it makes a lot of sense BB wise.

lets put it this way: KG needs to rid himself of Spree, Hudson and Cassell if this deal is going to work in a positive way for him and the Mavs. And Terry, Stackhouse, and Harris needs to rid themselves of Dirk if this deal is going to work in a positive way for them and the Wolves.

Sam Smith is an idiot who writes articles based on fairytales he has while he is sleeping. Mark Cuban has no respect for him would never do anything that Smith suggested.

Smith is a 'source's' a**...that by-lined major market writer is without credibility, cannot be taken seriously. Nor can his paper be considered major market or credible with that joke jerking off on their newsprint.

Like xiki and rainmaker have said, and Clutch indicated to a degree,

Friends Don't Let Friends Read Sam "Trader" Smith

BS daydream articles like this are all he writes. Never a source, and someone correct me, but I believe he has yet to correctly see a trade coming despite his 15 prediction/week average.

KG is a complete player, a utility player who has no impact offensively and defensively on the game, but he is a great utility player.

KG's contract is so huge, probably greater than R. Wallace and Ben Wallace combined. Yet R. Wallace and Ben Wallace combined is much better than KG.

To be a franchise player, a player has to be able to score 50 or 60 at any time. KG is not the one, and he can not block shots either. Dirk actually can score. So Dirk > KG.

Why would Dallas take on 2 aging disgruntled players even if they are getting KG in return? Minnesota would be getting the better of the deal IMO.
