    From Insider:

    Houston Rockets
    Pick(s): 24

    Swingman
    Backup center

The Rockets did a good job of piecing together some nice role players to complement Tracy McGrady and Yao Ming last season. However, the truth is, they could use upgrades at the two, the point and power forward. And, with Dikembe Mutombo coming up on his 87th birthday, they'll need a backup for Yao. Look for them to either address the swingman position or backup center problems here. Players like Rashad McCants, Rudy Fernandez, Kennedy Winston and Francisco Garcia would be good options in the backcourt. Channing Frye and Randolph Morris would great fits if they're on the board. They could also use some low-post toughness. Guys like Wayne Simien, Ike Diogu or Ronny Turiaf might make some sense in Houston.

Backup center before a 4? But I do agree that a swingman is our primary need, and I don't think that's what will do at 24.

I just read where Hoopshype.com has us taking at #24:

    http://www.hoopshype.com/draft.htm

Channing Frye 6-11 250 PF Arizona / Senior
Agile and powerful. A deft passer with good hands, he makes use of his skills inside, yet can step out to hit a mid-range jumper.
    Comparison: - Stats: 15.8 ppg, 7.6 rpg, 2.3 bpg, 55.4 FG%
Rookie season salary*: $782,900 Ranking: 10th Power Forward / 5th Senior

That's good and all, but look at Wayne Summers' stat line.

    Stats: 20.3 ppg, 11.0 rpg, 55.2 FG%

    And BOOM goes the Dynamite.

If the Rockets are definately getting a PF through trade or MLE then then why take a PF in the draft? We already have 4 PF (Howard, Spoon, Baker & Padgett) under contract. Add a FA throught the MLE and add 1 through the draft and you are looking at 6. Minimum 5 if done through the sign & trade route. What about Badman?

I would love it if we got Fransico Garcia. He reminds me of a Tayshaun Prince. I think he would fit well on this team

I think Baker, Spoon, and Padgett are definitely short-timers with the Rockets. Howard might be trade bait as well, so there could be room to add a veteran PF via trade/MLE and a young one to back him up via draft.

Fransisco Garcia is 6'7 and Tayshaun Prince is 6'9"/6'10" with arms down past his knees and plays like a 7'0" SF. How could he possibly be comparable to Garcia?

I think you mean, "Houston, you have a problem." Which is the line everyone uses when something doesn't go the Rox way.

The Rockets can use a young player at every position, I have a feeling we're just going to go with the best player available. Hopefully:

    1. Wayne Simien- 20ppg 11rpg 55% says it all.

    2. CJ Miles- Maybe gone by #24, but he has a lot of talent, I could see him as a Josh Howard/Marquis Daniels type player.

    3. Francisco Garcia- Best shooter in the draft, period.

    4. Ronnie Turiaf- Big PF, good rebounder.
