I am going to have a $20 buy in no-limit hold-'em tourney starting at 1PM (or thereabouts) on Saturday in Clear Lake. Any who want to join are welcome and if you want ot invite your friends or poker buddies, they are welcome too. I can handle 30-50 people as the house we are having it in will be empty. The event will be strictly BYOR(efreshments), but there will be a mostly empty refrigerator available if you need to use it. Please post here or email me through the board with the number of folks you think you will be bringing so that I can get the logistics handled. BTW, there will probably be a cash game started up once enough people get booted from the tourney so if you can't show up until later, we will probably be playing pretty late.
Ahh, I really want to go, but I'm heading out of town this weekend. I'm in for the next time for sure.
I don't like rebuy's. Unless you get lucky with the cards, which you probably aren't since you already went to zero once, you are just throwing good money after bad.
Never, I won a big pot early was the chip leader most of the night until the very end where 2 guys went at it and one guy cleaned the other one out for $800 in winnings. DD PS. I normally play in a $20-$100 range, but at $200 the game was a lot less friendly....but definitly fun. I went all in with $400 and bluffed a guy with trip 10s out for $80, of course there was 3 to the flush on the board and that helped. DD
No, I risked $400 to win $80....... And no I will be here in Austin for Memorial day weekend. Thanks though, and have fun ! DD
I was referring to your doubling of your buy-in. We will and you do the same. Let me know when you are ready for a conversation (E# is over, isn't it?).
What are "re-buys", never understood that term, does that mean after you lose you can buy more chips? I dont see how that could be, because then the tournament could go on forever.
Going to Lake Charles this weekend to play some hold 'em. Wish me luck... I'll need it. As in I'll need the money, not as in I suck, 'cause I don't.
Well, a lot of the time there are set times for re-buys - like you can re-buy in the first hour. It increases the size of the pot, which is why some people like it. Also, if enough people have been knocked out, eventually the re-buy would only get you enough for 1 or 2 blinds. That's just throwing good money after bad. Last Friday night we had a re-buy have a big impact. A guy lost 85% of his chips on the second hand. There was trip 5s on the table by 4th street and he had pocket cowboys. He figured that he would have the best full boat - but he didn't count on someone else having the 4th 5. OUCH! Anyway, he re-bought, went all-in a bunch of times and ended up winning.
As stated above, there is usually a time limit for re-buys. I usually see it set at the first hour. One of the main benefits is that it increases the size of the prize pool for the winner.
