I saw Yao once at an ATM machine (you may wonder why a guy like him need to carry cash, right? Actually me too). Pity there were some other ppl around so I didn't go up and say hi. Some even stood very close to him while he was widrawing cash, which was quite rude I think. But Yao was nice enough to even agree to take a picture with one of those ppl and his kid.

Yeah, I know its kinda strange that this would be my first post. But it was like 15 minutes before I read this thread that I saw Yao Ming. it was a big coincidence and i thought i had to reply. But make no mistake Tigerknee, I am one of the biggest Rockets fans on this board and a huge fan of this website. thanks though for noticing my one line post... .

There was another Yao Ming fan spotting Yao Ming shopping at Third Planet Comic, a not-so-conspicuous toy shop by the 59th Highway. Yao Ming was seen shopping there with his friend Andy Yao, the host of his Hour with Yao Ming. The fan wanted to find something for Yao Ming to sign, but was stopped by the shop owner that the rule for that shop was that there should be no disturbance to celebrities shopping there. The fan later posted on Rockets' fan site that he saw Yao Ming spent > US$1,000 for Transformers 变形金刚. Yao Ming is a great fan of the Transformer. He could still remember all the names and stories of the various types of Transformers and could tell you how many of those Transformer series he saw on TV as a young kid.

The third place where Yao Ming could be found had to be the entrance/garage for working staff of the Toyota Centre as Yao Ming went there regularly for training/practicing except for week-ends.

Yao Ming spent most of his time on his strength and conditioning training. He can now bench press 220 lb repeatedly for 12 times without any difficulty.

Yao Ming also practice his shooting. During the start of the off season, Yao Ming was training together with Caroll Dawson. But after a few sessions, Dawson gave up as his instructions seemed not helping Yao Ming raised his FG%. Yao Ming said that the Rockets tried to get others to teach Yao Ming in the regular season, but then someone suggested Caroll Dawson who had been a coach for centre. So Yao Ming learnt quite a lot from Dawson but not his shooting touch.

Now that Dawson is busy on recruits for the new season, Yao Ming just trained with Assistant Coach, Tom Thibodeau. Yao Ming said: "It was fun training with Tom. On one hand we trained on my shooting; on the other, he trained me on my trash talking" .

Beside training, Yao Ming also earned some easy money from the assistant coaches. Tom Thibodeau and another assistant coach doubted about Yao Ming's 3-pointer capability/accuracy. So 3 of them placed a bet of US$ 50 each. Yao Ming hit nothing but the net, and earned easily US$ 100. On the second day, they increased the bet to US$ 60 each. Once again, Yao Ming swished and earned US$ 120. The assistant coaches dared not bet with Yao Ming again.

Yao Ming likes movies and reading books. So the other location where fans could easily spot him could be at some of the book stores/DVD shops in the Chinatown of Houston. He frequently went there to shop DVDs and books. He went to see Star Wars Episode III - Revenge of the Sith when it was released in Houston.

Thats hilarious that the coaches increased the bet by 10 bucks instead of doubling it or something like that. They'll have to bet a lot more to make Yao uncomfortable.
