1) Yeah I guess they could have gone into more detail about who exactly Sifo Dyas was...but really the important thing is a clone army was created all those years ago and palpatine obviously was behind it and already setting events in motion. 2) I really liked that little tidbit at the end..not only do they explain the ghost but they somewhat link Qui Gon to the OT and at least give him more of a role past PM. As for why Anakin didn't need training...he was one of the most powerful jedi ever, he was the one that brought balance back to the force...He was much more powerful than Obi Wan so maybe he didnt need the training..you think Yoda did? 3) The only real plothole I feel holds weight... before the NT I always assumed Padme was alive and kept Leia for a few years before her death. But now, well thats not the case. And the way the story was set up...how Anakin turned... Padme had to die when she did...but either way Lucas went w/ her storyline he was somewhat screwed. If she dies, well that contadicts what Leia said somewhat. If she doesnt, then we and Anakin are led to believe his whole reason for turning to the Dark Side was actually true..that he did save her. So she really had to die then. And in the context of the whoe trilogy, i think her death and what Leia said still fits together. If you really look at what Luke asked closely you'll in fact see that the plothole essentially lies in the OT...he asked her if she knew her REAL mother...we are never led to believe that Leia even knew she was adopted. She obviously didnt know Luke was her brother or Vader was her father and I highly doubt the Organas would tell her the truth. Plus if Padme was still alive when she was very young I'm sure she would have told her about her father and brother. So really, Leia could just as easily be referring to Queen Organa, the only mother she's known. Or, through the force, she picked up images and feelings of Padme...so she may have known she was adopted but didnt know she was a skywalker. And jJust because Luke doesnt have those images doesnt mean Leia can't (she does share that special mother-daughter connection after all plus Luke picked up on those feelings of Vader being his father but Leia never did so that could be that special father-son bond). And in any case, we are never led to believe that Luke is stronger in the force than Leia because she hasn't even trained yet...she didnt even know she was a skywalker. So just because she hasnt used the force yet doesnt mean she's weaker. Luke didnt even really use the force or know about the force until meeting Obi Wan. 4) I actually thought he was older in ROTS 5) I think he aged because the lightning effect backfired onto him. Much like a gun backfiring...kind of a different effect than juust getting shot. Which is why Mace and Luke didnt "change" 6) I think Obi Wan figures he's as good as dead and leaves him there. Whether or he knows he's still alive at the end of Sith I'm not sure. I'm thinkin no. But somewhere btwn Sith and ANH I'm sure he realizes Anakin/Vader is alive cause he tells Luke in ANH that Vader murdered Anakin. Plus its 18 years btwn the two...I'm sure he would receive word of Vader being alive eventually. 7) Whether or not he knows she's dead is irreleveant. He uses it to deceive Anakin once again. By telling him that not only is she dead, but that he killed her, Anakin's rage further consume him and he falls further into the darkside plus by her being dead, every person close to him that could have brought him back from the darkside is gone. His transformation is complete...he's turned to evil..he knows it...he's pretty much screwed cause all his loved ones are pretty much dead...he knows it...so there's no turning back for him now...and he knows it. 8) see 7. Plus I don't think he truly wanted to take over the Empire...at least in the beginning of his turning...I think, for instance, the things he told Padme on Mustafar...were a byproduct of his turning to evil...he was letting all his emotions (ambition, arrogance, greed especially) consume him. 9) Well my guess is they already knew how to build it...so it takes significantly shorter to do so.... or since after ROTS the republic had fallen and the jedi were all but extinct...there weren't any real threats so why rush something so complex...in ROTJ they kinda had to rush construction to squash the rebellion once and for all. 10) I don't ever recall Yoda and Obi Wan being presumed dead in ANH. 11) I don't think we see him gain powers in ROTS...his eyes turning and really his whole face I think occured because of him turning evil and being consumed by hatred. I think it worked really well and in fact...made me feel for him even more...especially when we see him crying. 12) Anakin believes Padme is dead...so obviously he thinks the babies are dead too...so there's no reason to look for someone he believes doesn't exist. Aside from that...it is kinda strategic...the best place to hide Luke is right under his nose cause its the last place he'd look. Plus, I don't think he even really cared too much about his half-brother anyways. I mean sure he thought they were good, decent people....but I doubt he sent them any Christmas cards and after 10 years of Clone War fighting, they were probably far from his mind. As for the skywalker thing...the only two people (aside from Yoda, Obi Wan and Sen Organa) that would know what the name Skywalker meant are Vader and Palpatine and they didnt even know Luke existed. Plus Tatooine is in the middle of nowhere in the galaxy. Really I think a lot of these supposed "plotholes" are just nitpicky details. Is the NT perfect...no...but then again neither is the OT (yeah I said it). In fact you can find a number of plotholes in the OT as well.... Lucas didnt have EVERYTHING mapped out when doing these movies but its fine...because it all worked out in the end.
A question to all of the fans. If you were to watch the series all over again would you do it 456123 or 123456? To me, all of the surprises that made the original trilogy great would be ruined if it was watched in order.
*spoiler* Was anyone else dissapointed that Yoda gave up too easily against the emperor. I know it was a draw but im sure he could of beated him. also did yoda leave his lightsaber behind?
yeah The Real Shady, the whole "Luke, I am your father" moment would've been ruined. if i knew nothing of the series, i think 4, 5, 6, 1, 2, 3 would be the way to go. if i were ever going to watch it all over again at this point, i would go 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6. actually, i would just go 3, 4, 5, and 6. 1 and 2 aren't necessary at this point. 3 is badass and basically tells you everything you need to know, and finally gave us a great movie to go along with the amazing special effects, and then the originals are all great. you could just sum up 1 and 2 with a few explanations of the plot and who some of the characters are and jump right into 3 to get maximum enjoyment out of the series. and OT and NT i assume are "original trilogy" and "new trilogy."
Vader thinks his child is dead. If you look, they make it look like Padme is still pregnant at her funeral. He was surprised to hear about his son in ESB and his daughter in ROTJ. --------------------------------------------------------------------- This was a good one. Better than the first two. I wish there were some slower moments that were not love scenes. It moved constantly fast. But I am very pleased overall. While watching the movie I was just amazed that I was sitting there at age 34, mesmerized just like I was when I was 7. Of course I see it in a different perspective, But it is still surreal to me. 27 years later I'm still at the movies wondering "what will happen to Ob1?". Oh well, it's great. It makes it sad that it is all over. Star Wars will always be a big part of my life, as dorky as that is. And it's sad that the final movie had to end like it did. You don't walk out feeling good. I need to watch Return of the Jedi ASAP to knock the uneasy feeling out of me. "Max Rebo, hit it!"
"When you see something like that, a wizard did it" -- Lucy Lawless explaining to Comic Book Guy all of the plotholes throughout the Xena Series.
I saw it last night... and frankly, I thought it was a really great movie (and I had terrible expectations going in, after the 1st two). The main thing I was worried about is whether or not this movie would provide the neccessary transition to the OT. Would it be believable that a Hayden Christensen-played Anakin would actually be expected to become the Darth Vader that was so treacherous in 4-6. Honestly, I came away impressed with Hayden's acting (minus the love scenes... but still infinitely better than episode 2... I guess it is easier to act angry/mad than it is to act in love/happy). In the end, I belived that he transformed into Vader... and that Vader was a torchered soul who most definitely could rationalize his hate for the jedi, his hate for the name "anakin skywalker", and his lust for power. Additionally... regarding the numerous nitpicks, plotholes, etc.... I think Lucas did as best as he could to tie it all together. In fact, there are really no BLATANT contradictions. The Leia thing could be explained by her having dreams/images of her true mother due to her subacute force-like abilities. Anakin becoming completely disfigured, and more machine, would be a logical explantion to why he looks pretty gimpy with a lightsaber in 4-6. Additionally, Obi-Wan becoming old, and Luke not recieving the full scale training that most jedi's recieve from birth would explain why their saber skills are nowhere near the NT ones as well. The other potential plot-holes (like Anakin's spirit at the end of ROTJ) are really not that major enough to get in a tiff over. In the end, it was a good movie... and its a damn shame that Lucas didn't just start the NT with the AOTC plot, then have "the clone wars" as the second movie (from the cartoon), and then have this movie as the third. **spoiler*** The main part of this movie that had be liking it so much was when the Emperor ordered "execution 66", and you actually saw each Jedi getting gunned down. This was a FIRST for any Star Wars movie, to see the assasinations of such prominent figures in the galaxy... one after the other, after the other. And to see how Yoda suffered after each one... for once, this movie was about real emotions, and not just CGI.
Lemme answer your question with another seemingly indirect question. How old is Palpatine? Tough to answer since no one really knows. I ask because I kinda thought that if Palpatine learned how to cheat death, then he might be strong enough with the force to manipulate it at full health to prevent aging. The power of the "lightning" was too much for him to continue his youthful facade. Here's a fun off-topic question: What was Palpatine's first name? I've heard it was Augustus, but I'm not sure. I find your lack of faith disturbing. I thought ROTS was phenomenal. I actually read the script before watching the film, and there were (of course) a few scenes that were either deleted or never filmed... Ahhh, the wait for the DVD begins. Basically, the script had an exchange between Yoda and Qui-Gon discussing life after death. There was also a missing scene with a meeting between Padme, Bail Organa, and Mon Mothma among others as the beginnings of the rebellion (and a later exchange between Padme and Anakin that I think we saw only half of in the final version where Anakin and Padme begin to distrust one another). I was a little disappointed not to see them in the film.
Finally got around to seeing EP III today in theatres, and what an incredibly well-done ****ing movie. Not going to write a review, because what I have to add hasn't already been covered in numerous bbs reviews . Personally, I never found EP I and II to be that disappointing, they weren't bad. However, EP III takes the cake in terms of the best of the prequels. Awesome special effects, awesome duels, and great plot/character interaction. 9 out of 10
I can only give the movie 3.5 out of 5 stars. Lots of really, really stilted George Lucas dialog....Hayden is pretty bad as Anakin/Vader.... Finally was anyone else disturbed by all the circling...all the characters seemed to circle each other all movie long...not just combat scenes. Also I think Lucas overcorrected for all the opposition to Jar Jar...and removed some of the fun stuff that is an intrigal part of the SW experience (though I understand this was always meant to be the darkest of the series). Beautiful special effects and action though...and, by far the best of the second trilogy.
Did Jar Jar become the new Ewok song. It became cool to b**** about until they take it out. Yub nub, eee chop yub nub, toe meet toe pee chee keene, g'noop dock fling oh ah. Yah wah, eee chop yah wah, toe meet toe pee chee keene, g'noop dock fling oh ah Coat ee chah tu yub nub, Coat ee chah tu yah wah, Coat ee chah tu glo wah. allay loo ta nuv Glo wah, eee chop glo wah, ya glo wah pee chu nee foam, ah toot dee awe goon daa. Coat ee cha tu goo (Yub nub!) coat ee cha tu doo (Yah wah!) coat ee cha tu too (ya chaa!) allay loo tu nuv (3 times) Glo wah, eee chop glo wah. Ya glow wah pee chu nee foam, ah toot dee awe goon daa allay loo tu nuv.
It took this movie for me to realize that I don't and never will like Star Wars. Everyone seems to love it and I just can't see it. I think its because I have no imagination.
I think this was the best of the prequels. I couldn't help but to think that this was the end of the Star Wars saga, the end of an era.
Even the original Star Wars and Empire? Most prequel haters(who I may now be among after witnessing ROTS) seem willing to acknowledge that the first two in the series were really good.
Saw it already, great film.... but did anyone stay for the credits? One of the Wookies was none other than.....Axel Dench Remember, he tried out for the Rockets a few years ago?? We could've had a Wookie on our team!!!!
you guys were talking about part VII and all I dont know much about the star wars universe but has this stuff already been written?
