Very interesting commentary on China's efforts to forge alliances with the Palestinians. I'm sure this is ultimately all about generating goodwill among Middle East countries with oil and part of a larger effort to secure oil resources around the globe. Sadly, the Bush Adminstration's disastrous foreign policy has created a huge opportunity for China and they are quickly taking advantage of it. PALESTINE HAS NEW POWERFUL FRIEND Hu and Abbas honor and dignify each other in public The Chinese push to line up a web of interlocking alliances and accords and trade agreements is historic and astonishing and amusing to witness particularily since 90% of this activity is deliberately hidden from the American people by our own media which considers this to be a non-story. It is the biggest story. Bar none. Bigger than anything else going on right now. Tracing this activity and understanding what it means is very important. The latest conquest without firing a shot: Palestine. (http://news.xinhuanet.com/english/2005-05/19/content_2973476.htm) China is basically going to be the primary sponsors in the Security Council for the Palestinians. This is going to be a formal relationship whereby the Chinese will directly funnel Palestinian political demands into debates in the Security Council. This puts China at total odds with the USA who is the primary sponsor of Israel. This sponsorship also means that Palestine, who lost the sponsorship of Russia when the communists there fell, is no longer friendless and easily pushed around. What is more, the sponsor of Israel owes tremendous sums of money to the sponsor of Palestine. This is a fun thing indeed. This means China will integrate Palestine within its growing Co-Prosperity Sphere. America has put all its energy into promoting Jewish colonialism. The Chinese are not trying to colonize Palestine so the potential for conflict is near zero and the benefits of accord are high. Connecting this with China's new bilateral relationship with Iran and one sees clearly how they are exploiting the rising tide of Antiamericanism in the Muslim world. American unpopularity is making diplomacy there nearly impossible for us. The BBC, for example, carries the usual dreary news from Palestine. As the Jews who forcibly colonized huge tracts of tiny Gaza are being slowly forced out by the Israeli government, tensions rise as the radical rightwing settlers resist and the Palestinians, sick and tired of all this, retaliate as per usual. (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/4561533.stm) Nearly always when there is a fracas the Israelis hit back at will. No one can stop them since, until this week, Palestine had been pretty well isolated with no real allies. This is rapidly changing. This editor expects Abbas to return with a series of initiatives and actions that will alter the way Palestine has reacted to events. Previous to this, all they could do was rage. He has to bring down the rage and the repeated comments in China about peaceful resolutions and strengthening Palestine are designed artfully to reassure as well as warn. Namely, this is no longer a war and it is up to the Israelis to pull out swifty. So far, the Israelis have been groping for excuses concerning this pull out which moves with glacial speed. They imagine they have all the time in the world. This is a delusion. Culture of Life News is predicting that this "control" will not last very long. If the Chinese move in aggressively to build alongside the Palestinians, one thing they will not allow will be Israeli interference. The first thing that will happen is the establishment of a large port and airfield to accomodate the potential trade. China is willing to take a loss on this trade for the value of this will lie not in money but in setting up and controlling a very valuable stone on the international Game of Go. By the way, right after 9/11, Bush went to the UN and suddenly announced he supported the creation of the State of Palestine and since that day, nothing but death and misery has been poured up the Palestinian people. It is altogether too sad that the Knight on the White Horse is China, not us. We could have developed a sane state building relationship since we bankroll Israel and therefore hold the strings to power there. A lost historic moment and not the last by far. posted by Elaine Supkis at Thursday, May 19, 2005 http://culturelifenewsbreaking.blogspot.com/2005/05/palestine-has-new-powerful-friend.html
It would be funny if China could bring about peace in the Isreal Palestine conflict, that will surely help China secure more oil in the middle east and else where.
This is actually the kind of role I had hope that the U.S. would have taken with Abbas. It is important because naturally anyone who does this kind of thing will have some say and influence in how this new govt. evolves and progresses. Wouldn't it be best if we had put ourselves in a position to exert that kind of influence. It's an old cold war story. Most of the time groups forming against oppressive govts. won't be too particular about who helps them. If in Nicaragua we could have funded the opposition to the Samoza regime, it would have been a big help. Anytime there is an effort by groups like this to come about, we should at least investigate and see if it is possible for us to get in on the ground floor helping them. It an sew the seeds for a lifelong alliance between the two nations.
Uh you might not want to use the term "Co-Prosperity Sphere" especially when discussing Chinese issues. That's what the Japanese called their dominion over Asia between WW1 and WW2
This is China's M.O. I remember reading something about 2 or 3 years ago where China published an outline of stepping up it's efforts to secure resources and also new ways of 'industrial warefare', in additon to technological sabatoge via internet. Anyone notice how semi-helpfull they are with the Korean nuclear thing? They're being two faced without really looking that way. They are the next big threat America will face (outside of terrorism). It may not be conventional warfare but definitely trade warfare and through their assistance of countries unfriendly to America. They're trying to fly under the radar, but eventually things will heat up. It may be starting to already with the Trade Limit on Chinese clothing imports that ust recently came about.
Arab World and Iran moving towards China, Latin America moving towards partnership with China, an Arab-Latin American summit, Russia and China cooperating on security issues, even conducting military exercises together, EU moving away from the US and publicly challenging US policies/actions... Well, I guess Bush was right when he said "I am a uniter, not a divider".
THrere is a posibility that this may not be done as an anti-US persay, and I hope we would consider the idea a posibility untim something proves otherwise. For India as well as China, the states which could be useful fror manufacture of cheep goods are those Arab states who are fixated on Palestine. Even if Palestinian investment comes at a loss, it engernders good feelings everewehere the issue gets good play. in the media. I may be overlyracially dramatic, but I find that anything that is intended to be insulting or agressive from China often takes quite a bit of analysis to understand. This move, IMHO, is to straightforward to be directed at the United States. THe chinese ecomomic sphere of influence is quite similar to the (defunct)russian sphere of influencee.
Its funny, when Any other country helps out in the Middle East, its about oil, but when we do it, its about "freedom"
Another observation: when it comes to China bashing, there is no more party line, and you can't tell who's "faith-based" and who's secular. I guess many people in the US are missing the Cold War.
So the unpatriotic liberals call it freedom too? All countries are vying for secure oil reserves that are owned by Nationalized Oil Corporations.
