Heh, I know what you guys mean. It seemed like there every day, someone else had to make some kind of comment about how "annoying" a "What's in the CD Player" thread is. I just never could understand why it would bother some people so much when all they had to do was not click on the thread. I guess these same people should be bothered by all of andymoon's drug threads in the D&D Forum. But the constant whining really pissed me off and I don't know if you will ever see me do another music thread. Heaven forbid, that I *annoy* Jack Meioff, member #10666 with one of these. BTW - Win, I am currently listening to Brian Eno's debut, "Here Come the Warm Jets" - an album that is supposedly what Roxy Music would have sounded like if Bryan Ferry had left the band instead of the other Brian - good stuff.
I always thought they sucked and there always seems to be one around. If most people that posted in them didnt act so elitest it wouldnt bother me so much. I just never said anything. Whatever.

How can you tell someone is being "elitest" (sic) from reading a post on a message board? Just because people list stuff that you may never have heard of hardly makes them elitist.
I wasnt trying to be a jerk, just stating my opinion. I figure if I dont like a thread I just avoid it. It just seems like anything that is mainstream is considered crap just for the simple reason that it is popular.
It's funny how music lovers come off as so elitist. Maybe because there's such a marked difference between the good and the bad, and if the people who were "snubbed" would bother to look just a tiny bit harder, they'd understand the variety and the quality that's out there, even if they don't care to seek it out thoroughly.
Manny, glad to see you got Hear come the Warm Jets. Baby's on Fire (Better throw her in the water) just kills; as does most the rest of the LP. Eno's next three, Taking Tiger Mountain By Strategy, Another Green World and Before and After Science are all winners. Then he went ambient and kind of lost me. There is also a Fripp and Eno lp (put out in that era), No p***y Footing, that is pretty tough sledding, but something that might appeal to you.

I've been meaning to buy "Warm Jets" (or any 70s Eno) for, oh, ten years. Never can remember to take a chance on it. Listening to a lot of Naked Eyes (best known for their cover of "Always There to Remind Me") and Billy Bremner (the Scottish guitarist/singer, not footballer) these days.
I can appreciate what you say MB, and can even see some truth in it. For sure, there is absolutely no way I give a Brittney Spears even the slightest chance and give her and others of that ilk the same treatment. However, I don't believe I've ever posted as such. I think what you mainly see as elitism is those who have discovered bands that radio won't give the time of day, yet desperately want others (even just one person) to also discover and appreciate that band. I guess THAT is where most of the music threads have tended to go as many of us get impassioned over various unknown bands and want to spread the word.
I don't get someone who jumps into a thread just to say they are not interested in the topic. Maybe we should all put what we are listening to in our sigs so that there is no excape .
