The Sox have the Bambino, the Cubs have the goat, so what do we name ours?

That you did. A stupid thing for me to be sensitive about, but I do *not* plagiarize.

    The Knepper Curse

One more decent freakin' inning from the guy and we're a lock for the '86 series. Instead he falls competely apart.

    Scapegoats are for Cubs fans.
Lets not lower ourselves to their level.

Agreed! Collectively, we already whine almost as badly; at the very least we could avoid such silliness as scapegoats and "curses".

But most Astros fans already have a scapegoat, even if it's a misguided one.

    Leave Drayton out of this.

This whole damn thing is Spec Richardson's fault.

I'm glad someone brought this up, because I have a question about something I read on ESPN last year. They did an article about this very subject, but did it for all the baseball teams that either never won, or hadn't won in forever. When they came to the Astros, they called it the "curse of the Colt '45". Their reasoning was that when they moved to the Dome, they changed their name to Astronauts....which became Astros....and that Smith and Wesson was pretty pissed about it. I had always thought that the reason for the name change was because Smith and Wesson threatened to sue them for using the Colt '45 name. Does anyone know what really happened?

Oh, and we were cursed way before that. 1980, 1981, etc, etc...

The only baseball team that really had a curse were the Red Sox. They were the best team in baseball on several occasions and did not win it all due to some freakish happenings. I do believe that some sort of higher power was involved in that.

The Cubs were never good enough to win anything. They have been a crappy franchise (just not the on-field squad) for the last century. They don't have a curse. The curse is just an excuse for their fans.

The Astros have never won a championship, for the same reason. They have never been that good. During the years when they were good, there were always teams that were just better (e.g. the Braves). This year's Houston team just sucks. There is no curse. A bad team loses games. It's simple as that.

Did you watch baseball in 1980 and 1986?

By the way, I don't think anyone here really thinks the Stros are cursed -- we're just having fun. Don't be such a wet blanket.

Yeah, the horrible curse of 5 playoff appearances in 10 seasons. I'm sure a lot of teams would be happy to swap curses.

Idiotfan perhaps, but no more or less than anyone else.

As has been stated, I'd rather not be associated with the myopia, self centerdness, self-importance and general annoying assclownery that characterizes CubSox fan as a group.

The curse of the humidity. The Astros have been cursed for as long as it's been humid in Houston.
