The Rockets worked out Chris Thomas , John Lucas and Daniel Ewing today. All three looked good until the one on one drills. Chris Thomas played solid the whole way through. Daniel Ewing was very good defensively. John Lucas throated big time. Were not talking minor to mid major either, were talking about serious throating.
Lucas could shoot when he was wide open but when it came to game situations he was absolutely terrible. "Throating " is a term that my friends and I use. It pretty much can be interperted as saying he sucked or was brutal. There are different degrees of throating. Minor, Medium, mid major and major throating. An example would be there was some minor throating during Lucas's other workouts but in game play it was major. At times during Thomas workout, there was most likely some medium throating. An example of minor throatiing would be Quentin Richardson during the Dallas / Phoenix series. No question he throated in game 4 but for the most part he's been solid. Hope that clears it up.
And thanks for letting me in on the fact that you clearly take things way too seriously. I figured everyone would get a laugh out of it and also get some information about who the Rockets worked out but apparently you are way too cool to get that. Hopefully I didn't take up any of your precious time.
Where would serious throating fit in then....you can't even use your own system...WHY...WHY....the humanity!!!!!!!! j/k...throat away
Major throating is the same as serious throating. This is hilarious actually (except for the dude who takes himself way too seriously).
Alright, alright, enough of the throating : What goes on during the one-on-one drills? Are they going against each other? A coach? Any input on who did what to whom when they went one-on-one, if they went against one another?
I could see Daniel Ewing being a similar player to Wesley- an undersized, good defending two who will usually bury the open triple. He's not going to be much of a point guard though, imo. I could see him slipping pretty late into the second, or perhaps even being one of those surprise undrafted. Then again, with good workouts, he could go as high as late first. His outside shooting his first 3 years at Duke was much better than it was his senior year. From what I saw, he had a lot more ball responsibility. He may be a guy who's a better spot up shooter than off the dribble shooter (ie, the anti-Francis). Chris Thomas is interesting. He's a legit PG and is an excellent defender. Really quick. He's just a mediocre outside shooter though, but he's pretty good mid range shooter. He's a good example of a guy who may have been better off coming out earlier. He's no better than a mid 2nd rounder. Would be worth a flier if the opinion on Spanoulis isn't so high.
So all the worked out players were guards then? If so, then I guess we can get a sense of what need the Rockets are trying to fulfill through the draft. Unless, of course, the Rockets are going to work out both guards and big men.
They go at one another basically. That's how it was easy to determine that Ewing was a good defensive player, Thomas was solid and Lucas didn't have what it takes. During drills it's kind of like high school fundamentals but then they let them go against one another. Like i said, all three were good until the one on one drills and then Lucas showed he won't be in the league next year.
All the players worked out were guards. They try to do it like that so they can have one on one drills. It's a quick way to weed out the players who aren't worth another look. For instance, Thomas and Ewing will likely be second round picks and they may be able to contribute somewhere. Lucas was completely outclassed and it's not like he was in there with Chris Paul or Deron Williams. He's an overseas player, won't make it in the league.
