Yes! That is what I am talking about... Get it done CD, this is no doubt the type of player we need battling down low & providing a much needed spark at the PF position. Provided we can get Anderson at a good value (hopefully), he is a great role player and would make a real nice addition to the squad.
I really like this kid. I watched him play a lot this year, and was always impressed with his energy, and athletic abililty. The kid is definately a freak. No Austin Crosher comparisons here. Very good defensively with good post presence. This kid just continues to get better, and there's no reason to think it won't continue. I think he would be the perfect compliment to JH. He also brings a hard-nosed attitude much like Sura, and we need more of that on this team. Him and Yao would look great together on the court. I'd rather have this kid than Swift because he's hunrgy and he's improved every year. Swift, on the other hand, is nothing like I thought he'd be when he was drafted. He has T-Mac-like athleticism, but it just goes to show you that that means very little in the league if your head isn't screwed on. The kid is Shawn Kemp dumb.
Pass. He opted out of a deal that was paying him his worth. Theoretically, then, he is looking for more money. I don't see how he gets much better than his stats this year, so see no reason to overpay for him. EDIT: I'm not saying I wouldn't like him on the team. If you found that there was no other legit PF option and therefore want a better back-up contrast to JH, he could be great. I just don't see him being worth much more than he was making, and wouldn't overpay for him.
Clutch- I would first like to thank you for not putting a pic of Andersen on the frontpage of CF.net. I don't really like Andersen, but he would be a nice addition off the bench. I'm not sure why you guys are using phrases like "battling down low," and "good post presence?" This guy is still rail thin and does very little battling down low, luckily this guy has athleticism out of this world to help him rebound and defend. Overall: Andersen would be a nice player coming off the bench, but if he is the only addition at PF we make this summer, we will be in big trouble.
Or maybe he sees himself as being on a losing team going no place and wants to spend his prime years on a team with a legit shot at doing some special
He would be good to replace Padgett. I like his enthusiasm off when he is on the court. Good, scrappy player that can do some damage.
If the Rockets end up drafting a power forward with their pick, I wouldn't mind signing Anderson for cheap (no more than half the MLE) as insurance. In case the draft pick pick doesn't work out or if Howard injures himself again.
He opted out of a deal with NEW ORLEANS. C'mon now.. who wants to play for them? Can you blame him, really?
Thanks anyway. These profiles will provide great discussion at my barber shop later today, I'll let you know what the "experts" think.
ditto that ... btw - is anyone gonna make a stinky about Clutch putting Anderson in the great Matt Maloney's jersey !
He had the right to opt out, and it said so in his contract; therefore, no harm, no foul. New Orleans could have offered him a bigger, longer term contract last year, but they tried to get him cheap and it cost them. IMO he probably opted out trying to get to Houston, I would have. So, I have no character problem with him. If he is 6'10", can board, block, an energy guy,and play defense to Yao's back and all for a relatively inexpensive price-tag. Then it is rather a no-brainer. I haven't seen the guy play myself, but I am willing to take Clutch's word for it. This may be one of the 4's CD said the rockets have been talking with.
Andersen opted out of his contract. He clearly is looking for more. But how much more? What is his value? I bet he is looking for FULL MLE dollars while I think most of us feel he is a half the MLE type guy. Money issues aside, I dont see Andersen as a starter, just a backup. That would mean Howard is the starter and Andersen the back up at PF. I dont mind Andersen, but I would rather we get a more polished PF. I think Andersen's value is more as a backup Center than a PF. Like if we didnt have Deke I think Andersen would be a good backup to Yao as Andersen would be able to bring shot blocking to the second unit.
i wouldn't mind having chris anderson but he has basically no offensive game other than put-backs right? i'm guessing he'd be expected to be similar to cato at pf but probably a bit more productive.
He would be pretty decent back-up plan if we can't land one of the prime PF candidates out there. However, he is by no means the "gritty" PF we are looking for to have Yao's back on Defense. I think the guy is worth no more than $3 mil per, and anything near $5 mil per is too much for him. He would basically add more depth for us at the PF, but would by no means be a major acquisition that solves our needs at the 4-position for the foreseen future. So basically he would be nothing more than another big body in there. The only problem is, as a fan, I won't be able to get that image of him misperforming in the All-Star Dunk contest, I just break out laughing whenever I remember that. So I guess he would provide some comic relief as well. If we get him, let's also try to lure J-Williams (Eminem) from Memphis, then we can market them as a double-dose of white chocolate.
I'd love to believe he opted out because he can't stand losing and is willing to play for the same money on a winning team. But that just won't happen. He's looking at a market that paid Brian Cardinal, what, $40 million contract last year. I don't blame him...he's been around the block, having played in China during his career...he should get as much money as someone will overpay for him...just hopefully not the Rockets.
