I am getting sick and tired of listening to Russia open their big mouths every time we bomb Iraq. We do not bomb Iraq without just cause. If they are getting radar locks and firing at our planes, then we are going to take out those installations. It's that simple. Every time we do defend our planes enforcing the no-fly zone, some panzy ass over in Russia has to open his big mouth and state that we are overstepping our bounds. Here is an example of what I'm talking about: General Leonid Ivashov, head of international relations at the Russian defence ministry, said the attacks were "a new defiance of world opinion," the Interfax news agency reported. The general described the raids as a "barbaric and inhumane" treatment of the Iraqi population, adding: "There was no military justification for the strikes." The strikes "harm the prestige of the international organisations, in particular the United Nations Security Council," he said. UN acceptance of the strikes "could lead to an escalation on the part of (US President George W.) Bush's team towards other countries," he warned. I'm ready to break off all ties with Russia right now. Let's go back to the cold war. Did it ever really end? Judging by all the spies being hung out to dry lately...it doesn't appear so. At one point, I thought Russia and the US were becoming allies. After all, we have been trying for years to get their economy going and instill some democracy over there. What do we get for our efforts? A bunch of slander. I'm sick of it. How did we ever build a space station with these people? Maybe it's just the military who has the big mouth? They side with Iraq more than they do with us. Allies? I think not. I see the battle lines being drawn already? Russia, China, and Iraq versus USA, Britain, Canada, Mexico( ), Israel, and others. Russia even sided with Milosevic of all people. The Russian government is screwed up! They never have anything nice to say about us. So, why do we even bother with them? Surf ------------------
Here are some more comments from the Russian military: ``This is a barbarous, anti-humane act toward the populations of other countries. Naturally, there was no military reason for carrying out the strikes,'' said Col. Gen. Leonid Ivashov, who is in charge of foreign ties at Russia's Defense Ministry and known in Russia as a hawk. Interfax quoted Ivashov as saying the new Bush administration had ``thrown down the gauntlet to the international community.'' ``If the United Nations (news - web sites) closes its eyes to these bombings, this could lead to an escalation of such activities toward other countries on the part of the Bush team,'' he said. ``If Washington behaves this way in the future, and it is demonstrating clearly that it will, then no state on earth can feel secure.'' No military reason? Huh? What are you smoking, Mr. Ivashov? Were your planes shot at? Were your planes targetted? No, No. So, please do us a favor and shut the hell up. ------------------
Talk about hypocrisy! I would talk about what those freaks are doing to their citizens, but it goes without saying! ------------------ Dream a deadly Dream. . .
I am getting sick and tired of listening to Russia open their big mouths every time we bomb Iraq. We do not bomb Iraq without just cause. "Just cause" is in the eye of the beholder, unfortunately. Just a couple of months ago, Palestinians threw rocks at Israelis and caused the death of a soldier -- absolute outrage here. In response, Israel blew up Palestinian government buildings with missiles -- no big deal here. Granted, one was in response to the other, but the first act was in response to something else Israel did, which was in response ... That's a never-ending argument. We justify things however we feel and generally in our own best interests. That's just human nature. Iraq is Russia's friend -- of course they will defend them verbally. Tomorrow, if England invades & loots some small African country, I guarantee you we wouldn't put together an international coalition to force them out. (same scenario as Iraq) It's just the way the world is. ------------------ Is it any coincidence that the Cato is the only Rocket with a temperature scale named after him? I didnt think so!!!!
As for our action, we can debate over whether it was correct or not, but Russia has consistently opposed the United States on every foreign policy issue . . . even ones that are obviously good for everyone. For what it's worth, Russia is a very confused nation. It is about as powerful as Luxumborg, and has the economy of Antarctica. That being said, it still wants to act like a big shot. Russia has publicly said, many times, that it is still a superpower, and that it is more important in the world than the United States (it sounds made up, but this comes straight from top Russian officials). Russia used to be "the man" in the east -- now they are a mere shell of what they once were. Part of it is nostalgia -- Russia still wants to be significant, and it can't deal with the fact that it isn't. Part of this complex would also be the fact that Russia has consistently had a beef with the United States. Why they would have one now is beyond me, as the U.S. has done much to try and help democracy, but Russia has not flourished and there may be resentment. Every Russian I've ever met has been really cool though. One Russian filmmaker I met in Houston told me that he believes the Russian and American people get along very well, it's just the governments that act up. I have to agree with him. ------------------ All your base are belong to us
One of the funniest thread titles i have ever seen, before reading the post i though Surf was trying to start the cold war up again Imagine Russia Bombs the US, when the clouds clear and WW3 is prevented the Russians are asked why they made an unprovoked attack on the US, General Vodka said " This Surf guy in Texas said we were stupid, i mean i like the Rockets and he is a fellow fan but he can't get away with calling us stupid, the dumb capitalist" ------------------ CUT Tino These Heaves are just getting Ridiculous!

Surfguy: Russia's response is quite understandable. Let's face it, the US hasn't done a good job of maintaining their Cold War coalition, and Russia is attempting to damage relations between the US and France and Germany, which both sympathize with Iraq. Neither nation supports Saddam, but think that the sanctions regime has failed. Russia would like a Russo-European coalition to balance the current US hegemony. And any student of French foreign policy knows that France is fertile ground for such an overture. Another example of this is the recent Russian policy reversal on NMD. They were once opposed; now they want to build their own to protect Russia and Europe. Can you say: trying to build a new world power structure? Can't say I blame them. The US has been very arrogant for the past 55 years. ------------------ Why is it that everytime BC defeats a major conference opponent, that opponent promptly goes on a losing streak? PS. The answer is yes. Russians are stupid. Nice realistic take on global politics, you borscht-eating Commsymps MAJORITY OF RUSSIANS THINK U.S. HOSTILE, ONLY 5% CONSIDER IT SUPERPOWER Over half of Russians consider the U.S. a country hostile towards Russia (52%), although every third Russian believes that the U.S. is a friendly country (32%). These figures were released by the Public Opinion Foundation on Thursday as the results of a nation-wide poll of 1,500 respondents conducted February 17. The respondents were asked the following open-ended question: "When you hear the words “the United States of America,” what comes to mind?" Most respondents (26%) said their first associations were those of a developed economy and a high standard of living. Many fewer mentioned the role the U.S. plays in the world: 5% of those polled called the U.S. a "superpower" and another 5% "an international gendarme" that wants to "get the entire world under its control." Another 16% revealed even more negative associations. Those respondents said they saw the U.S. as "Russia's enemy," a country where "psychologically primitive" "zombies" lived. Among the most frequently named associations named by this group of respondents were the words "illiterate," "chronic absence of culture," "drug abuse, sex," "crime," "organized crime," "shooting, killings, rape." Twenty percent of those polled said they were well disposed towards the U.S. and respected the country, and some even said they admired it. This group of respondents associate the U.S. with "true democracy," "freedom," "observance of human rights," "respect for people." It is a state whose citizens "have confidence in tomorrow" and where "law and order" prevail. It is a country of great possibilities," "an example for everyone," "a dream country" in which "one would like to live," they said, according to Interfax. ------------------ Things are tough all over, I know what you mean... --Damon Johnson
BrianKagy, thank you for posting maybe the most misleading title ever! I love this: ONLY 5% CONSIDER IT SUPERPOWER Yet, when we read the article, we see: Most respondents (26%) said their first associations were those of a developed economy and a high standard of living. Many fewer mentioned the role the U.S. plays in the world: 5% of those polled called the U.S. a "superpower" and another 5% "an international gendarme" that wants to "get the entire world under its control." Only 5% said that was the first thing they thought of out of who knows how many possibilities. If you asked the accurate question "Do you think the US is a superpower", you'd get a totally different response. Over half of Russians consider the U.S. a country hostile towards Russia (52%), although every third Russian believes that the U.S. is a friendly country (32%). I'm guessing this is pretty much mutual. You have to remember -- we came in and said "do things our way and you can have all the success we've had". It hasn't happened -- granted there's been corruption and all, but that's not under the control of regular individuals. Democracy has caused all sorts of problems there, so there's going to be a natural resentment. ------------------ http://www.swirve.com ... more fun than a barrel full of monkeys and midgets.
Don't thank me for posting it. Thank Pravda for writing it. I just cut-n-pasted I didn't mean to give you credit for the title. I guess it came out wrong! Maybe this is what happens when Russian is translated into English. ------------------ http://www.swirve.com ... more fun than a barrel full of monkeys and midgets.
