I know a few of you guys might be interested in this. http://www.rollingstone.com/news/st...2923306343&has-player=true&version=6.0.8.1024 Hootie Get Lucky Rock foursome soaks up the sounds of Nashville Hootie and the Blowfish will release their sixth studio album, Looking for Lucky, on August 9th. The forthcoming follow-up to 2003's self-titled release is the band's first for Vanguard Records. Produced by Don Gehman, who did the band's blockbuster 1994 Cracked Rear View, Lucky reflects the sounds of the city where it was recorded: Nashville. "It's not a country record," frontman Darius Rucker says, "but recording and hanging out with the people of Nashville seeps in there. We couldn't help it." Nashville tunesmiths Matraca Berg and Radney Foster co-wrote "Killing Stone" and "Another Year's Gone By," respectively, while modern bluegrass band New Grass Revival guest on another track. Hootie and the Blowfish return to the stage Friday night in North Carolina, before the golf enthusiasts head back to their native South Carolina this weekend to perform shows in conjunction with the Masters. Rucker already has a live pick from the new album: "'Hey Sister Pretty' -- that one I'm really looking forward to playing."
As i posted the other day. There is one song with the name (or something close to it) of "One Love". Their guitarist has called it another "Hold My Hand" For those who loved "Cracked Rear View" or "Fairweather Johnson" this will be classic hootie. There are a few others that follow the same path. On the other hand as you can tell from the article, this album is going to have a very "Musical Chairs" feel to it. These are just some of the guys Hootie wrote with. Trick Pony Radney Foster Chris Cagel Cowboy Mouth Matraca Berg New Grass Revival and there are possibly a few more. I've got high hopes for this album. They wrote upwards of 50 songs for it and went with their 12 or 13 best. It'll be interesting to see how radio airplay pans out, and how many albums they sell this time around. The goal is 500,000, which i think it attainable.
Well it's official http://www.hootie.com/discography/ Hootie and the Blowfish set to release their fifth studio album titled LOOKING FOR LUCKY August 9th through Vanguard Records and the band's independent label,Sneaky Long Records. The multi-platinum quartet –Mark Bryan, Dean Felber, Darius Rucker, and Jim Sonefeld – spent the most of the last year touring in support of THE BEST OF HOOTIE & THE BLOWFISH: 1993-2003 album. Once off the road, the band immediately went to work on their next release. The band entered Emerald Studio's in Nashville, TN, reuniting with longtime producer, Don Gehman. Gehman who produced the band’s hits such as "Hold My Hand", "Only Wanna Be With You", and Grammy award winning "Let Her Cry" got right to work with the boys laying down Darius's rich, bluesy vocals and the band's gleeful harmonies and infectious melodies. The band promises it's fans that the ten track album is by far their best work. Tracks included are the fan favorite Autumn Jones, State Your Peace, Hey Sister Pretty, The Killing Stone, Get Outta My Mind, Another Years Gone By, Can I See You, Smile, One Love, and Leaving. There are several special guest Musicians that appear on the album as well such as Sam Bush, Matraca Berg, and New Grass Revival's John Cowan. Hootie & The Blowfish’s previous albums include: “CRACKED REAR VIEW” (1994), “FAIRWEATHER JOHNSON” (1996), “MUSICAL CHAIRS” (1998), and a collection of rarities, “SCATTERED, SMOTHERED, AND COVERED” (2000) self-tilted, “HOOTIE & THE BLOWFISH” (2003), and “THE BEST OF HOOTIE & THE BLOWFISH: 1993-2003” (2004). As always, stay tuned to Hootie.com for more updates on the new album.
I heard them this last weekend on campus. They were actually pretty good, including some of the new stuff they did from the new album. They ended up doing 4 encores, so quite a few people liked them.
I talked to Mark Bryan afterwards. He seems like a really nice guy. Even went out of his way to go get a sharpie market out of his tour bus to sign something. Funny conversation about the fact that it is hard tfor him to believe that he is 38, but he's trying to stay acting young. And it is crazy that most of us were in middle school or elementary school when the stuff came out. People seemed to like stuff from the new album. On one of the songs, he had someone else come sing with them since it was in Nashville where they recorded the new album, but I'm not sure who it was. Granted, as anyone who has ever been to Rites of Spring at Vandy will tell you, most of the people were drunk... but they still wanted encores so I guess that is a good sign for them.
jpm. LOL , the funny thing is it is a 3 day concert and Cake performed one of the other nights here this weekend.
The band is definitely known for their live shows. Mark is easily the most approachable. I've talked with people who have hung out with him and the other guys at their hotel all night after a show. None of them act their age i read a review about the show. What happened with the guy trying to hit Darius with a beer bottle? Any idea what new songs they played? So far they've only incorporated 2 or 3 new ones that i've seen; "State Your Peace", "Ride Along", and "Autumn Jones". Do any of those sound familar?
jpm0016.. do you know where you read the review at? I'm not quite sure about the whole beer can throwing incident. He seemed really mad at first, but then he was cool rest of the show. Maybe he remembered the fat check he was getting and continued on. It was probably just a drunk kid. They sold a limited number of tickets to the Nashville public for first time, so it very well could have been one of those people instead of a Vu student. They couldn't have been too mad if they did all the encores and the last time they kind of came back on .. on their own and were like we were told we can have 5 more minutes and talked about how great a party it was so they seemed to be having. We enjoyed the comments about us being smart and him being a dumb carolina grad too lol I'm really not quite sure which new songs they were. Do you have any idea which new song involves someone from Nashville? Because one of the new ones they performed, they had someone from Nashville that sings it with them.. come on stage since they were in town. The names State your Peace and Autumn Jones sound kind of familiar to me, but really not sure.
You know, we've never had any problems in the past 3 years I've been here. Note to self, keep Nashville people off of this campus
Here's the review http://www.vanderbilthustler.com/vnews/display.v/ART/2005/04/25/426ce01e7f02f I have no idea which song includes someone from Nashville singing on it. The new album has 10 songs, 5 of which were collaborations with Nashville artists. Your guess is as good as mine.
I was in college... ok, we are officially over the hill now I remember visiting there during Rites of Spring... didn't really hang out around it much, but that's pretty much what I remember. Actually, that year, they had all the drinking contained in a sort of cage that you had to be 21 to get into. It made everybody mad. The impression that I got from the students is that they just wanted to drink. All they wanted to do was drink. (and act stupid) Over the next two days, I got to witness things like drinking games, driving while drinking, and pressuring underage guys to drink. (This was during a recruiting visit... I had just turned 17, and there were a lot of us young people there.) Maybe it was just that group, but it wasn't my idea of what I wanted to do in college. So I went to another school.
jpm.. oh ok, I've read the reviews in the school paper isabel.. lol, it is a little worse around rites than the rest of the year.. just because it is like the last weekend before finals etc.. overall, I don"t know how different it is now than it was then... as rankings have gone up, the student body may be a little different.. although I have no idea how they were ranked back then.. 18 now though.. rice is 17.. better get moving before we catch up
as i tell my dad.. governor perry sends his kid here, so it has his stamp of approval.. so it must be a good place for me too
It was a good school; just not for me for some reason. Your personality needs to fit. The only girl (in the engineering scholarship group) I really liked was the one that the other students made fun of. She was cool. She said that every year, the person she had hung out with during recruiting weekend had ended up going to Rice instead. I didn't have the heart to tell her that it was about to happen again.
I haven't ever had any prospective students hang out with me.. not sure if that is a good or bad thing
Well i wasn't going to post in this thread again until the new single was released. However the band did a radio show today on the Mix station in Orlando. They played a new song acoustically called "State Your Peace". It was written in the last year and basically its their big political song. It's been rumored to be the possible first single and its gotten a great reaction wherever its been played. Fan or not i'd love to hear some opinions on it. I know there are some guys like RM95, Masterbaiter, DrapAG and a few others who have mentioned enjoying their earlier material. Would love to hear what you guys think too. Just click on the little "Mp3" option in the link State Your Peace (Acoustic)
Cracked Rear View was the first cd I ever owned, and I've never stopped listening to the Blowfish. Glad to see they're busting out another album reminiscent to CRV and Fairweather Johnson, those two are by far my favorites. Needless to say, I'm pretty curious to hear what the new album will sound like, but so far so good after listening to the accoustic link. I wish the guys luck, they seem like really cool guys that never really let their sudden stardom change who they were.
