    I don't really follow these things, but I'm guessing PS3 and/or XBox 360.

I'll probably stick with a PS3, although the Revolution may be pretty cool depending on what Nintendo has to offer, so I could get those two if I can afford it. The only reason I'd get the Xbox 360 is if I can't wait for a next-gen console. Given the graphics of some of the games from the MTV special, I think I should be able to wait, especially if Sony can wow us all with a few demos this week. I keep hearing rumors about how much more powerful the PS3 should be than the Xbox 360 (much stronger devkits at this time, for example, and possibly some extra parts to the PS3 than previously thought), so combine that power issue with the fact that Sony has exclusive rights to several of my favorite game developers, and you can see why I'd rather go with the PS3. Also, I wonder if any developers who developed games on the Xbox (Bethesda, Bioware, Starbreeze, id, Valve, etc.) may either do the same for both the X360 and PS3, or maybe just the PS3 itself.

*Imagines a next-gen God of War*

All that said, while I am not a big online player, I would like to see Sony come up with something like Microsoft has. Maybe not as good, but just something to make online play simple and fun.

I was leaning toward the PS3 myself because PS2 has such a large game base, I'd be able to play all previous games along with the new one. Plus, I heard PS3 was going to be more powerful that XBOX 360. But since the XBOX is basically a PC, it has a lot of PC games on it that I want to play. I'm not sure about Revolution because of the game selection for Gamecube hasn't been great. I'm intrigued though.

One good thing about going with Nvidia for the PS3 GPU is that Sony opens up the chance to have several PC developers developing games for the PS3. Had it been some bizarre GPU from Sony/Toshiba, you could probably assume about the same amount of support for the PS3 from PC devs that the PS2 got, but with Nvidia's help, not to mention IBM, the PS3 should be much easier to program than the PS2, even with Cell. I remember Tim Sweeny of Epic praising Sony for going with the Nvidia route, so we may at least see some game from Epic using the Unreal Engine.

Again, I have no idea what to expect from the Revolution. Depending on how crazy it is, it may even get less 3rd party support than the Gamecube (wonders if Capcom will keep supporting it like it has). That said, it will still have Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Pikmin, Pokemon (not that I really care), and all the other great Nintendo-developed games. With some games in the mood of the Metroid games or the new Zelda game, they may be able to offer some more "mature" games as well.

I would like very much to buy and play a next-gen gaming system. But I just won't/can't spend > $200 to do it. With a base unit, controllers, and accessories, I would have to spend > $300 and then I get to start buying games, and then network services... the prices easily start to approach $1000.

    And I only have a 35" tv.

Nope. I've got more important things to spend that much money on. I don't see how/why other people do it.

Yeah - while you're at E3, walk over to the xbox booth and tell them they need to buy you out! (Isn't that what Microsoft is best at?)

I'll probably get the PS3 some day, but I'll be using my money elsewhere till then. I will stick to my PC.

I would expect each system to be around the price of $300 here in the US, or maybe less if Nintendo doesn't put too much expensive parts in their console. Maybe the strength of the dollar could change things, but I wouldn't think it would be much more than $350 at the most, although at that price, I'd assume that the console may be bundled with stuff, maybe like the PSP was.

I think these companies have figured out that Americans won't pay much more than that price for a console, and they usually make it up by overcharging the Japanese and Europeans. I wouldn't doubt it if the PS3 cost $400+ in Japan once it launches.

Revolution. There's really no third party out there making games that I'm interested in, and Nintendo's stuff is usually satisfactory if not dangerously addictive.

Obviously the 360 first; the original XBOX was the last console I bought (only this previous year) and it quickly became my favorite. Looking forward to the new influx of developers that will be producing for it, as long as the media/online/Live convergence that the system is heading toward.

All of the streamlined, community based functions of the new XBOX are impressive to me.

After that, it's hard to say. Depends on when the other two come down the pipeline. I'll eventually own all three...but how I get there I have no idea.
