Can't imagine it being something as big as Bagwell retiring without the media getting some info about it before the announcement, but I guess we'll see
He doesn't have to do anything to get the $20 million next year, he could just sit on the DL and collect paychecks. He's trying to get back on the field and help the team.
I'll take the 2001 and 2002 Bagwell... the shoulder was pretty bad then, but not as bad as it is now. If they can get it back to that level, I'd take it.
He was playing with shots. The problem is that now the shots aren't helping. So now, it's surgery to just live with it.
This is just patch work to help him continue his career. Eventually he will still need shoulder replacement according to reports. So basically the docs are trying to get him to minimum 2000/2001 Baggy is possible. If he comes back healthier this season, he could be a big boost for us if we are still in it. But what do we do now? Do we trade a prospect to land a solid OF or another 1st baseman? Or should we just go with what we have and expect others to pick up the slack? I will take a Jason Giambi for a fraction of his salary (the remaining total .....with Yankees eating up most of the balance) in exchange for Hernandez.
I'm happy with Lamb playing the lion's share of 1st. He's been in a slump lately but he's a great hitter and an excellent RBI producer.
