Well I stand corrected, but ugh. Once these "little" operations start on a big man they usually continue. Funny, there was definite explosiveness on a couple of his jams in the third quarter where I was sure he was too far away, so I guess it's obviously not serious. But it still seems weird.
Yao will be fine. He's going to get plenty of rest this summer and some good workouts. The surgery is no big deal. Stop worrying. You guys are all so negative.
Didnt look fine after last 2 off seasons. Same old same old. stuff he really needs to work on during the summer are still the same after 3 years. Look Amare, one summer does wonder.
Yao will be here until the end of June, and then won't start national team duties until mid July thru mid September. Every NBA player plays basketball over the summer. Yao will get the work in he needs.
Playing in china will hurt Yaos game. You HAVE to play with people better than you are, or at least as good as you are, to continue to develop your game. His game will not develop playing in China, if anything, it will go backward, because it will be soooooooooo much easier for him as the competition there is nothing compared to what he could get here in the summer. DEFECT!!!!!!
I think we're all overreacting to some commitments that Yao may or may not have to fulfill. How many reports have come out of China that say he will play, or that he won't play, or that they are still discussing whether he will play or not. One official says one thing, another says something else. Who's to say how it will turn out. One thing for certain is that Yao is on record of saying that he sees the benefit of having a summer to train and hone his game (just like Amare). I'm sure his agents and advisors are working behind the scenes, negotiate terms that are in his best benefit.
Well, I was just wondering who here actually has seen any semblance of evidence, either request from the CNT, or an official position, anything, that says Yao is going back or Yao is gonna get asked to go back. Until then, anybody that says he's going back is bullsh1ting.
If he doesn't go back it would be the "exception" and not the norm, considering he has gone back every single off season in his young career. So until the CNT comes out publicly and allows Yao to spend some time in Houston to hone his skills and waive any "commitments" for this summer, we are all going to assume the "norm", its more logical to think so than vice versa
Ok, no more arguing about whether Yao will stay in US over the summer. It's official he will be back to China after June. http://sports.sina.com.cn/k/2005-05-09/14431550335.shtml He told his good friend Yang Yi in the last part of report that he will go back to China after June after the surgery. Yao said it himself.
Interesting, another sina report says that if Wang Zhizhi can go back this summer to play asian tourney, CBA will allow to Yao to stay in US to recover after sugery. http://sports.sina.com.cn/s/2005-05-10/0411560742s.shtml Talking about absurdity of CBA!
Going back is not the problem, he has the right to go back to his homeland and vacation. We are talking about the CNT officials making him play and not let him have his well-deserved rest. Yao needs to rest a couple of months, then come back to the state after those 2 months in China and start working on his game/physique etc. Of course he is going back to China, it is his homeland and where he is most comfortable.
If they let Want in, they don't really need yao to win the Asian Tournament, that's what I've gathered. The Asian Tournament is the sole/main reason that the CNT wants him back. Out of the "Big 3 centers" in China, Baatar (sp?) wasn't drafted to the national team because he was sorta old and the CNT wanted to make room for the young guns in preparation for the 2008 olympics. Wang didn't answer to the call of duty of the CNT ONCE, and he was pretty much blocked from entering the CNT ever again; but Wang has been a fan favoriate (so was Yao of cuz), and he expressed deep regrets on many occassions that they're considering letting him back in. With Wang at center, CNT would easily win the Asian Tournament for the 10465th time - actually any scrub center will do but with Wang who didn't even make the playoff roaster it's almost guarnteed - and so the officials are considering letting Yao rest. Yao would probably prefer to go home for a vacation for a month or two regardless, soley my opinion here.
I see. So the norm is based on two summers. No credible source would say that's a large enough sample size.
That's one of the biggest lies ever told on this board. NOWHERE in that article did Yao say he's going back to China. The only thing that he said about going anywhere in that article is as follow: Basketball Pioneer (newspaper): What will you do now? Note: This was asked in reference to the game 7 loss to Dallas Yao: What can I do? (silence for 10 seconds). Go home if you should, go have kids if you should, go do what you have to do, that's all. Not to mention Yang Yi isn't even in the article and didn't conduct the interview. I also love how you neglected to say that Yao (allegedly) said that CD already scheduled a private workout for him in the offseason, after his surgery. I think instead you wanted to reference this article: http://sports.sina.com.cn/k/2005-05-10/06511551199.shtml Where Yao said he wanted to go back and train with the CNT, even if he doesn't play any games. Once again, nowhere in the article did it reflect any position from the CNT.
You need to read that article again. The interview was indeed conducted by Yang Yi. Yao did mention that he is likely to go back to China at the end of June.
I do feel CNT also noticed Yao's summer problem that is why they try to get Wang back to replace Yao's position so Yao could take some time to develop himself. Wang will be as efficient as Yao in Asia games, he had dominated Asia games before when he was 17 years old so CNT have no worry about the Asia Championship.
Biggest lie ever? You need to put on a pair of glasses or lasik surgery. Last paragrah of the report Yao said he will probably be back to China after June.
