No, I think he meant the year before the Buffalo game.

The Oilers had three straight years of 2nd half collapses.

2nd round - Broncos (15 point lead lost in 4th quarter to Elway)
    1st round - Bills (35-3 --> 41-38 in OT)
2nd round - Chiefs (Joe Montana's last hurrah, the year they started 1-4 and finished 12-4, I believe.. the Buddy Ryan season)

Yeah, that Oilers/Broncos game is tops on my list. The Bills game was just too incredibly bizarre to top the charts. Once they had a little momentum, you could just see it coming. In the Broncos game, Elway had to covert a couple 4th downs on that last drive, and it looked like the Oilers had them several times. Incredibly frustrating.

For me the entire week was terrible, obviously the rockets was terrible, and with two soccer semi finals the dutch team lost in the last second. (championsleague, and eufa cup)

astros/mets in 86 (even though i was 4 it was still sad)

rockets/jazz in 97 (first ej hit the 3 to win game 5 i was happy, then stockton hit the 3 to win the series in game 6)

but number one for me is the 38-41 mystery.

There was a great fight on Saturday, one of the best fights ever televised: Diego Corrales vs. Jose Luis Castillo for the Lightweight Championship. It's being replayed on Showtime on Friday at 10 PM. If you have Showtime, please record or watch this fight, it's the fight of a lifetime.

Not the worst weekend, but it's down there.

The two that were worse for me were game 6 Astros-Mets in 1986, and the Chiefs & Joe Montana beating the Oilers (in 1994 I believe).

That Chiefs playoff loss affected me alot, because I was convinced that was the Oilers' year to win big. I didn't think anyone could crack that 4-6 defense.

When the Buffalo debacle happened, I was in bed with the flu and 102 degree fever, so I felt like crap anyway.

91 Oilers when they lost to the Denver Broncos was my first exposure to pain when dealing with Houston Sports...12 years old at the time..it was my first tear drop ever for a sports event

When that no-call on Finley was not made on the outta bounds play as he swiped the ball from Barry was not bad enough... it REMINDED me of how Don Beebe was outta bounds and a call wasnt made during the Oilers-Buffalo to make him inelgible.....after I put those 2 together.. soon after Finleys play my living room and my vocal cords were a mess.... (Broke the coffee table after mentioning to everyone watching.." How many times does this outta bounds thing do i have to deal with")

I've noticed the same thing. I can be very pumped during the game, but I just don't go into a funk after a loss like I used to. There's way too many other more important things going on.

I'll pass on watching the replay of a fight between a couple of little, skinny people (5'9", 135 lbs).

And yea, for me the Buffalo game was the worst ever. The Denver game was John Elway doing his thing (and the defense collapsing late), the Chiefs game was Montana doing his thing (and the offense imploding), but the Buffalo game we lost to Frank Reich in a choke-job that made the team one of the laughingstocks of all time.

    First, you're getting older.

Second, this team is waaay too bright to be that down on. (I doubt you felt this good after Game 7 of the Astros/Cards series.)

Third, it was a blowout loss. I'm not sure why, but these are always easier to take.

Fourth, and I feel is the least reason, is that things are going well in your life.

    Maturity, schmaturity.
