Saw them on SNL Saturday and was very impressed. Don't know much about them but would like to pick up their new CD on May 17th. Can anyone enlighten an old fart about them? What would you recommend? Thanks in advance for the insults and jokes at my expense!
The only two songs I know from these dudes are "Fock the system" and "I-E-A-I-A-I-O" or something like that... I just listen to them to annoy the boss... that's all... I need a good "I HATE MY JOB" song... anyone know any other? (sorry for the thread derailment )
They apparently dropped an f- bomb on SNL. http://www.nydailynews.com/front/story/307679p-263255c.html Paula's cameo on 'SNL' drowned out by F-word By BILL HUTCHINSON DAILY NEWS STAFF WRITER Heavy Metal Band System of a Down got one over on "Saturday Night Live" last night. When the group performed "B.Y.O.B" from their new album "Mezmerize," the show repeatedly muted the F-word in the line, "Where the f--- are you?" But it missed guitarist Daron Malakian's screeched, "F--- yeah!" toward the end of the number. The camera even focused on him as he said it. Fans of the group immediately hailed the move on System of a Down's Web site, with one noting, "The censors missed at least one 'f--- you.' Which was nice." The band performed a second number, "Aerials," from their "Toxicity" album, without incident. "SNL" traditionally doesn't use a tape delay. NBC did not immediately return a call seeking comment. The show has a history of controversial performances, from Ashlee Simpson getting caught lip-synching to Sinead O'Connor's ripping up a picture of Pope John Paul II. Earlier, embattled "American Idol" judge Paula Abdul got the last laugh when the show spoofed her alleged Fox show sex scandal. "What you're about to see is a reenactment of some events of this week's biggest news story," said Abdul as she introduced the NBC show. "Now, all the facts have been changed to get laughs at my expense. I hope you enjoy it." The cast then did a skit loosely based on ABC's "Primetime Live" interview with ousted "Idol" contestant Corey Clark, who claims he and Abdul had an off-screen fling. In the spoof, Amy Poehler played Abdul as a sex-starved hussy hitting on every male contestant from Clark to Justin Guarini. But always the judge, the real Abdul had some criticism for Poehler's portrayal of her. "Amy, you need to prefect the clap a little more and be a lot more sexier so that contestants will be willing to sleep with you," Abdul said. Originally published on May 8, 2005
I didn't get into them originally. I had heard the name, but never heard a song until Chop Suey first started playing. Heavy/Speed metal isn't really my thing, but I like how they mix a lot melody into their songs. I definately like they're lyrics and they fill that hole left by Rage Against the Machine. They also have a bit of a sense of humor. "La la la la la la la la la la!"
i like system of a down but the vocals when they performed "ariels" was pretty bad they sounded out of tune
I have loved their last 3 albums. Toxicity gave them a lot more mainstream attention, but their previous album Sugar was also great. Probably my favorite band working today.
I just read that they played BYOB on SNL. That song sucks! They should have played Cigarro, but it really would have to have been edited!
HUGE SOAD fan here. "Toxicity" is their best stuff IMO. The rare thing of an incredibly MUSICAL hard rock group. That is where I would start. I got an advance copy of the CD and I really dig it. Not "Toxicity" levels, but probably their second best album IMO.
I've listened to their new CD. Violent p*rnography, Lost in Hollywood and CIGARO are pretty good tracks.
Toxicity it is! I'll pick it up tomorrow! Gentlemen! Thanks! And no insults! I'm impressed! Well...except for moe!
If you're going to pick up Toxicity, you might as well pick up their self-titled (their first album) too. It didn't get radio play like Toxicity, but it's certainly worth the money. Steal this Album wasn't as good as the first two, so don't bother with it. I've got my reservations about the new one, but it's SOAD - I'll get it anyway. And the best thing is they completely f-ing rock live, even if you're not in the mosh pit.
I thought Steal This Album had several good songs on it. There's Innervision, Nuguns, I E A I A I O, Highway Song(I think is the best of the album), Ego Brain, Roulette, and Streamline. I like this cd more than I did the self-titled one. That just my opinion and taste though. Toxicity is definately their best album though.
