-Sura was hurt the entire Mavs series. -First priority after collective bargaining agreement is finished July 1st is to re-sign Yao -Mentioned Yao just turned 24, Hakeem wasnt his best until 27, 28, 29... -No telling how good T-Mac will be. -CD Giggled at the idea of us being able to afford Kidd, but also mentioned that many Free Agents are intrested in coming to Houston. -Yao got an MRI after the season and it was determined he had some loose particals giving trouble to his ankle (earlier JVG on 610AM said there are things Yao can work on here while he goes through rehab) -Sura's back needs time (1 year)
Hilarious. Just asked CD about Yao's injury surgery and CD said, "I've gotten a lot of calls about that. I don't know how that got out!" LOL!!! Guess where that came from?
Said Yao will have his ankle and elbow checked out. They think the ankle has some loose particles that need to be cleaned out, but it's no big deal. He said the majority of basketball players go through the same thing.
I have been giggling as well at the ludicrous fantasies of some posters here that Kidd would ever be a Rocket. It is not only a fantasy, it is not even a "good" fantasy, because it would make our team's outlook into the future worse than without Kidd's rediculous contract.
I'm guessing this doesn't mean he'll have to sit next season, but just it will be a year before it is back to full strenght.
For the sake of the Rockets, I hope it never happens, it would destroy our team's chances for the next 4 years as far as getting better and improving our overall depth/talent level. Putting all your chips in 3 players often fires back on you. Let's not be impatient and let's build this team for the LONG haul the RIGHT way. Quick fixes never get you what you want, and in our case that is the Championship.
we were living in a fantasy last year with rumors of Tmac coming here and that came true, now if it happens two off seasons in a row, i am truly living in a fantasy world....
was there any mention of Yao going back to China this off season or if he was going to get an extended off season in Houston?
I think right now plenty of guys want to play on the Rockets.Look for CD to continue to scoop up quality talent. We have Yao,Tracy,a new arena, and no income tax. He's just getting started.
Not really, I knew we could realistically get him in Nov 2003, because I knew we had the requisite talent to trade for him in a package deal. However, with Kidd it is completely diff issue, since we ARE going to keep our two stars, and Kidd has a max contract. Basically, unless the Nets are willing to take next season's expiring contracts (Spoon, Mooch, Baker, one of our guards: Sura/MJ/DW), then we can't get him or afford him on our roster. And if he does play for us, then that means we can afford ZERO depth, and that means it will be our 3 stars and a shorter bench full of bad players. One of them goes down due to heavy minutes or injury, then you are screwed. This strategy just won't work.
Could Kidd take a pay cut to play with us (a winner). Do you think he would or is it possible? What are the rules with that?
That's a no. Unless the CBA has some drastic changes to it. I wouldn't hold my breath on an NFL like contract structure. If we trade for Kidd, you're talking about more than $50 million committed for THREE players for the next three-four years. Even if you fill out your roster with nothing but million dollar players, you're up over $60 million. I'd much prefer 4 $5 million dollar players than paying Kidd $20 million.
Exactly. In the playoffs every game is critical. With the multiple solid players we could get with Kidd's money, we might get away with one or two games without either Yao or T-Mac. Not the case with Kidd and a bunch of scrubs.
