I work on this side of town so I can help you out.

As Master mentioned, Cafe Taipei is very good and fairly cheap. They have the best hot and sour soup I've ever had. It's located on Eldridge, just south of Briar Forest I think.

Another good one is Feng Ling...there is a full size restaurant on Wilcrest just north of Westheimer, and a Feng Ling Express on Dairy Ashford just before Memorial.

I keep forgetting that there are a couple of us on this side of town now, we really need to do lunch one day!

If you're in or around Bellaire, you have to go to Hong Kong Chef on Rice/Bissonnet.

Awesome food, and the Wonton Soup is a must!

Oh yeah, Hong Kong Chef is really good.
Do they take credit cards yet?

What's General Tso? I have never seen it on the menu in the Chinese restaurants in California.

May be I didn't read the menus thoroughly when I went to the Chinese restaurants. I am just curious what it is. Anyway, nevermind. :)

I too am a huge fan of Lai Lai's Dumpling House. My family has been going there for years and years and considering we lived in an apartment near that area when I was born, I wouldn't be surprised if we've been eating there for 20 years or so.

Is there anything good near Minute Maid Park, on the other side of 59? There looks to be a Chinatown over there.

I think that place is called the Lucky Palace. I used to go there years ago, glad to know it's still open.

The only thing I like over there is the Kim Son along the feeder road for 288/59, and it's a Chinese/Vietnamese combo. The really good Chinese Food in Houston has moved to Chinatown West, Bellaire Blvd. west of Gessner.

Mai's is like Taco Cabana or Katz's - if you're not drunk, it'll taste like ass.

I could not disagree with you more on all three places.

Mai's, TC, and Katz's all have very good food.

I love Mai's and Katz's. Taco Cabana on the other hand...

You've been outvoted. Taco Cabana came in second in the best fast food tourney.

Go get some fajita nacho's and reconsider.

If your definition of "good" is "tastes like week-old dogsh*t", then I agree with you.

Mai's used to be great, but it has gone into the toilet in the last year and a half. Katz's is a laugher. Anyone who thinks that is a deli has never been to Kenny & Ziggy's. And don't get me started on TC. TC is great after 7 Crown and Cokes, but sober, TC sucks.
