"The best player you never heard of" from Vermont. Poured in 43 points in conference tourney championship game. Averaged 24/8 for the season and is 6'9" and 250lbs. Reportedly can drop a college three-point like a lay up. I don't know other than reading about him. Does anyone have more info?
Slow feet, can't jump, a bit undersized, can't dribble the ball, doesn't block shots, and not sculpted at all. Gets by on his soft touch, good hands, and positioning smarts. Great college player, but I can't see how he'll get minutes the the NBA. BTW, he can't drop a college 3 like a layup...he's got a bit of a hitch on his shot.
Sounds like Troy Murphy, and I'd take him in a heartbeat. Not that he will be like Murphy, but you never know.
Murphy is 6'11" though and Coppenrath is probably 6'8 or 6'9. That's all the scouts need to know to ignore him. Murphy also has better agility overall, allowing him to be a much better rebounder. Coppenrath's offense far surpasses his defense.
He can't handle the ball, and doesn't have quick feet. I don't think he can guard anyone at the NBA level. In college, he was able to get great position on guys, since he was hardly ever outsized. He also didn't look too hot in either of their tourney games. Great college player at Vermont, though...
coppenwrath's game doesn't translate to the next level. i was dumbfounded when woody paige compared him to larry bird. murphy can actually get rebounds and play decent defense. coppenwrath couldn't guard a 70 yr. blind woman with two platic hips.
Vermont played against 5 quality opponents this year: Kansas, UNC, Nevada, Syracuse, and Michigan State. Offensively he was overall effective scoring 17 pts/gm shooting 50% against the first three and 40% against the last two. Defensively the only person he really stopped was MSU but they don't really have a 4 his size. His opponents outrebounded him in the first four significantly. He outrebounded Anderson of MSU 14 to 7. His 3 pt shooting for the season: 9 for 33 or 27%. His best year in 2002/03 he went 38 for 98 or 38.8%. He really doesn't shoot outside. He's more of a mid-range and post-up player. I would say he is the opposite of Troy Murphy (who is a 3pt specialist/rebounder). But look this guy will not likely be drafted. I like the guy and he will probably hook up with some team that fits his skills. He doesn't fit this team's needs: rebounding, defense, post-up PF.
I think Taylor's jumper is a lot better than some are giving him credit for.In fact if your 6'9",and can shoot like that your going to hear your name called. If you can do one thing well, you can make it in the NBA.I know his three point % is awful, but this guy is a shooter...Someone is going to get a nice player, probably near the end of the first round.I can see him sticking open J's out of the gate for a quality team that would be down there.Despite his lack of athleticism,Taylor is an interesting pick.
