Detroit renounced the rights to 6 players including Dana Barros and Corliss Williamson
Interesting.....I thought they really wanted Williamson back!!!

I thought it might be for Webber, but he has announced he is resigning with Sacramento. So what the hell is going on in Detroit???

    Hmmmmmmmmmm.......

Funny that they wave Billy Owens, supposedly one of Webber's best friends, right after Webber committed to Sacramento.

Here's hoping the Pistons keep their mitts off of Mo. Maybe Shandon? HEY! Send'em Cato!

    Hoop-T,

How much control does Dumars have?

I think they brought him in strictly to attract free agents. His first year with the team, they gave him some phony job like Wilkins now has in Atlanta. Something like "assistant director of player personell". I'm sure he has a say in what free agents they go after or resign, but he's not the guy making the final decision.

That I do not know.....but he himself was renounced. Would you renounce yourself? He he he. No actually, I think he has quite a bit of clout in whom to acquire...but I don't think he has the power that say, MJ has in Wash. or Nelson in Dallas. But who knows?

Wow! 6'6 and 210? Good thing he's still a growing boy, huh? Then again, he's only an inch shorter than K9, although he's taller than Barkley. It's not his height, its his weight that amazes me the most considering his physical play is what distinguished him. The comparison to Harvey is much more apt now.

To set the record straight, Joe Dumars has total and complete control.

He did have a much smaller role the first year after he retired because he wanted to learn before taking over, but after that he was named the head honcho and there is absolutely, positively no doubt whatsoever that he is the man in charge. The guy that was in charge before him (Rick Sund) was demoted to handling only technical aspects the first year after Dumars took over (last season) and then released to go elsewhere after the season (he's now Seattle's GM).

Joe Dumars makes every decision for the Pistons and he's done quite well at doing it.

I believe they still plan on re-signing Corliss, but he counted too much against the cap with his bird rights, so they released him so they could do other things while they worked out his contract.

Anyone else think it's odd that they are renouncing their rights to Joe Dumars and Derek Harper, since both retired in 1999? And Derek never played for the Pistons. It would be like the Rockets renouncing their rights to Eddie Johnson and Rik Smits...

Sam, Harper was traded to the Pistons but then retired, meaning they had to take his salary without him playing...

Squatting on old bones and excrement and rusty iron, in a white blaze of heat, a panorama of naked idiots stretches to the horizon. Complete silence-their speech centers are destroyed-except for the crackle of sparks and the popping of singed flesh as they apply electrodes up and down the spine. White smoke of burning flesh hangs in the motionless air. A group of children have tied an idiot to a post with barbed wire and built a fire between his legs and stand watching with bestial curiosity as the flames lick his thighs. His flesh jerks in the fire with insect agony.

Thanx rimmy. Odd for Detroit to take on a contract for a guy who had 2 years left and refused to play for them, but I'm sure they had their reasons.
