Have you listened to any of Mike Haaga's new stuff? It's really cool. It's definitely not Dead Horse though. I'd ask if you've listened to any of Deep Blue Something's new stuff, but I'm pretty sure they don't have any.
http://www.michaelhaaga.com/ Good music! Yeah, and Mike's cool for sure. His new band puts on a very good live show.
I find it funny that Dallas is associated with being "rich." While there is a lot of rich people in Dallas...and the TV show made it popular, Houston is home to TONS of extremely wealthy folks AND is home to some of the RICHEST and LARGEST corporations in the world. We also have one of the busiest ports in the world as well. I'd have to say that Houston blows Dallas out of the water in true economic wealth if that is what the rivalry is about.
As for being home to wealthy people, they're both home to some of the wealthiest people in the nation. They're both home to some of the largest corporations in the world. *EDIT* : wups... this part snipped because I misread your initial post.
I worked in a warehouse off Clinton drive in the early 90's and came into contact with alot of people who moved from dallas. They were very proud of dallas for several reasons : the weather, their sports team's and how it was more cosmopolitan and polished than Houston. Texans are naturally prone to talk about their hometowns in glowing fashion, so I didn't start getting aggravated with their praise of dallas until it started to become a reflection of how much better dallas was than Houston. So I asked them a simple question which only one person would answer with any semblance of the truth. "If you love dallas so much, what the hell are you doing here in Houston? Why don't you go back if you love it so much." A guy I worked with, who was from dallas, said he missed dallas but started to like Houston because he could find work, it was 100 times more diverse than dallas and that it was closer to the Gulf. Of course you really can't take that better than thou attitude totally out of dallas native, but you can try. When I first moved to Vegas, the local paper had a big issue in the sunday paper about sports bar's for your favorite football team. The cowgirls were the only team to have an anti cowboy bar.
I've never understood the weather or traffic arguement in favor of Dallas. They're both (well, one in the summer) intolerable in both cities.
www.houstonitsworthit.com we're better because dallas would never make, or support, a website like this one.
My girlfriend is from Sweden and her family is coming to Houston for Christmas. She told me that they want to go to Dallas while they are here because they want to see Southfork Ranch and the grassy knoll. They arent staying at my house anymore.
