    YallMean.

You are posting in a thread that has a whopping TWO PAGES -- Not 30 like a TMac trade thread! I don't think that "too much hope" is synonymous with what this thread represents.

The truth of the matter is that we just don't know what type of player Vassillis will be once he gets to the NBA. But that's far from putting "too much hope."

We're just discussing what Lindsey told Bill Worrell. Simple as that.

    a couple of quick points

1 - spanoulis is already different from many of the european "potential" players because he is already proving he can do it on the floor in his league. Players like Skitishkvilli (sp?) and Nachbar never actually played very well in their respective leagues. They were strictly decisions based on forecasting of talent, which we all know is quite diffictult to do. Spanoulis showed (yes in an inferior league, but he still showed) that he can play and hit a clutch shot. Carrol Dawson's nickname for him is "Big Confidence".

    2. - Rudy no longer controls or has a hand in our scouting department. I loved Rudy, but he sucked as a talent scout. He could make the best out of the Chucky Browns, but he couldn't pick a winner if it was in his nose.

    3. - He has a cool name. Everyone knows that if you have a cool name like World B. Free or Vassilis Spanoulis, that you are bound for stardom. As a gut instinct, I really think this kid is going to be in the mold of a Tony Parker.

I like the idea of having a quick 6'4" PG on the floor.

You're not wrong, but NBADraft.net probably is.

Spanoulis is not ready to be the starting PG on a championship calibre team, something that I think the Rockets can be next year. If Bob Sura can repeat this year's performance with less injuries(unlikely) we'll be fine at the point.

Mike James is bigger than Wesley, but he's not nearly as bulky and doesn't swing the ball around the horn like David does. He dribbles to much to be a starter, IMHO. The halfcourt offense tends to bog down when he's not being used strictly as a cutter/standstill shooter.

I am in favor of replacing Wesley in the starting lineup, but Spanoulis is not the answer, he has just too many question marks.

Frankly, we have a better chance of signing Michael Redd than we do of finding an NBA-ready PG in Spanoulis. Personally, I think that we should just package our expiring contracts to Portland for DA.

I agree with everyone about the positive of being 6-4.
He's quick. That's waht we need.
But it says he's weak. He's only 22 though which is very good..if you want him to be part of our developing dynasty with Tmac Yao and MJ.
I hope we keep mike james.
I want the Rockets to get rid of Sura.
It says thathis shot is streaky..but he can work on it definitely like Lebron James has.
Of course..he might just suck so let's see..out of those free agents
I like Jaric, Antonio Daniels, and NO ONE ELSE. The rest aren't that great.
Guys let's hope Spanoulis is good. I'm optimistic. :) WHO KNOWS MAYBE ROCKETS made a good draft choice this time!
Let's e-mail CD and give him some fan input :)

Someone said Wesley is 6-1 and James is 6-2 so he could play shooting guard. Wesley is bigger and stronger imo.
We can have a 4 guard rotation with Spanoulis, James, and Barry or Wesley (or maybe both). I don't know..we can do so many things..I want to get Antonio Daniels..and then get a swingman (Hakim Warrick off the bench for Tmac).

    Vassy (hopefully)/James/Moochie

Well if we got Vassy..we would need a shooter at the 2. Tmac..and then get Warrick. Or get a good midrange shooter...

Anyways the Rockets can do so man ythings. I can't wait for next season

I really hope he's good..I will support him if he can be good. Only 22..quick..can get stronger and improve his shot. He can pass! to TMAC AND YAO..and whoever else. He can definitely learn some defense from our team.

Why DA? The guy has a MoT contract and is constantly hurt, we tried so hard to get rid of MoT, there is no reason adding another 8M to the payroll especially since those expiring contracts will really help us out next summer.

No one said Spanoulis could be a starting PG right away, he will obviously come off the bench and may eventually be a starter.

I don't see how there are too many question marks, every rookie and every foreign player has concerns, but it's never enough to not give them a shot.

From what I've read over the past season, Spanoulis really carried his euro team. He improved his shooting and has supposedly won a couple games with clutch shots.

I'm pretty excited to see Spanoulis play, maybe a little too excited. :)

Maybe he'll end up being a diamond in the rough. If the Spurs can get Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili, the Rox could hit pay dirt with Spanoulis.

It's worth a shot - don't discount the guy just because he's a second round pick. Or that he's European.

He doesn't have to be the second coming of Nash or even a starting guard. If he's good enough to come off the bench, that's a plus because of his youth (and thus hopefully energy). Any more and it's gravy.

    16ppg on 47% shooting, 40% from 3-point land
    2rpg
    4apg
    3TOpg

These are pretty good stats. He will have to cut down the TOs and he seems to foul quite a bit. He averaged 5 fouls a game.

I don't expect this guy to be another Parker or Manu, but if he could be another Beno Udrih, I'd be very pleased.

It's foolish to either dismiss the guy or embrace him. Has anyone here actually seen him play? Just because we haven't had much luck with unproven foreign players doesn't mean we won't eventually.

Give him a shot in training camp. If he's any good, he'll play.

That's what I'm hoping he'll be like. At least as good as Beno for starters....as a rookie PG, that's not too bad.

The good thing is that the scouting report shows that Vassilis is a better passer and defender than Beno.

    Yes.

Mike James will grow under Gundy....why trade a way a young, atheltic, quick player who can score? He may not be the solution at the 1, but he sure as hell can learn to play with this team.

And he's still very quick and good. I want to keep him. We don't want to replace our entire team with youngsters..then we'll be like the Bulls.

    We need a balance.

Anyways Dennis Lindsey says he's ready so that is great news!!!

One good thing about Sura is his toughness in the regular season, but he doesn't seem to be tough in the playoffs. As for his rebounds, can we find them in a small forward or pf? I'm not high on sacrificing pg function for a couple of rebounds. Sura is a hustle player with injury problems, streaky shooting and less speed. Evident in this series, we need a quick, penetrating, sharp shooting and passing pg. I don't expect Spanoulis to be starting, but hopefully he can fill that bill to some extent.
