you were blown out by 40, but it was the referees fault? incredible.

i'd think if anything, its more of a fault against sura and james getting abused like red headed step children by jason terry. or how about the white flag JVG threw up by not putting in his best player in the 4th quarter?

this game wasn't on the refs. stop pretending guys. there were some bad calls... but we were outplayed. it blows. but it happened. No one to blame but EVERyone except yao & trace. in fact, tmac had a subpar game compared to his norm for the series.. still can't blame him though

Absolutely. This was David Stern telling JVG who's boss. Before it was a blowout, the Mavs were getting calls that turned a small lead into a big one. How many times did tmac drive and get hacked and not get a call? That Yao offensive foul, the Mike James total hackjob. Not saying we would have won, but JVG clearly knows after tonight he made a mistake.

    The blatentness was incredible.

I think the turning point of the game was TMac's quick 3 at the begining of the 2nd half.

After a bad 1st qtr, we slowly, but surely fighted our way back to cut the Mavs' lead to 15 at the half time, then Yao scored first in the 2nd half to cut the lead to 13. After the Mavs missed the shot, TMac came down the court, launched a quick 3pt the minute he crossed the half court. I understand he was trying to make a 3 so we can cut the lead to 10 with almost 20 minutes to play, but he should have known better. This is game 7 in playoff, every possesion counts in this game, especially when you were down by 13 in the 2nd half, and you go for the high percentage shot. You got a guy inside who the Mavs could not handle, and he just scored, now you launch a quick 3 without even look at him?

To me, that was the turning point of the game. Instead of cutting the lead down to 10 or 11, the Mavs got the rebound, and scored to get the lead back to 15, the Rockets never threated again after that.

I can't get enough of this. I was about to let this 40-point loss drive me to drinking -- and I don't even like alcohol. Maybe I would've had to get drunk on grape juice or something.

God bless you foul-call whiners. We break the all-time record for losing margins in Game 7, and you're in here fingering David Stern and the pope. You've brought mirth into our lives just when we needed it most.

Here, let me throw a few more logs on the fire: We actually got way fairer treatment in this game (early on, when it counted) than a road team in Game 7 could have expected. P.S. To the refs' credit, they did not punish Van Gundy for impugning their impartiality. Discuss.

I don't like the calls, but I can't compliant about it after we got blow out by 40. It was a game 7 on the road, what were you expecting from the refs?

re-read my posts. i said it was the refs fault we were unable to get back into this game because of terrible 2nd half officiating.

the mavs shot well and the rockets played crap defense in the first half, that lead wasnt made by the refs.. but it sure as hell was maintained by the refs in the 2nd half.

reading comprehension, it's not just for GED's anymore.

after fouls one and three on Yao - they seemed to back off

... course, they could have just wanted the game to be over - I know I sure did !

Just out of curiousity, who here actually believes it was the refs fault we lost?

If my thinking is correct, not a single one of us believe that.

We did, however, see obviously poor officiating tonight that, given the circumstances of this series, cannot be ignored.

    Cute.

Inform me when ESPN keeps track of no-calls.

    Yawn.

    **edit

0:31 Mike James Technical Foul. His 1st Technical Foul. 62-86
0:31 Mike James Technical Foul. His 2nd Technical Foul. 62-86

Case in point. Rockets were attacking the basket and getting zero respect with the whistle. I didn't know Mike James was so apt to explode like that for no reason. Oh, and Tracy shoots airballs purposely..

    **double edit (a new best!)

A large part of the effect officiating has doesn't have much to do with numbers. You're never going to see a gigantic discrepency in fouls called for each team in such a short time span like a single quarter. You have to take other things into account, such as who the foul was called on, when it was called (who had momentum), what kind of foul was called (was it some touch foul, or a really hard at the basket foul).. things like that matter a ton.. just like non-calls matter as I said before. I got sick of watching TNT slow mo replays of McGrady getting fouled shooting threes and jumpers with his shots going apescat all over the place and the Rockets putting up four or five shots under the hoop that never even found the rim while being mugged by three mavs. Granted you're just not going to win when you play defense like the Rockets did tonight and the Mavs shoot out every light in the building, but I think we were all expecting a much closer/better contest, and based on the 6 games prior to this, we all know that the Mavericks are not 40 points better than the Rockets.

    Thank you!

Will and anyone else calling this a fairly called game are just playing the role of the gracious loser. The Rockets lost this game No one can argue that, but they also weren't given a legit chance to win it. A message was sent tonight....in this series. The officials are bigger than the game.

    The N(othin) B(ut) A(ctors). I hate this game.

I put this blowout squarely on the refs. This should have been a 30 point loss, but the refs had to screw around and give the mavs all the breaks.

The Rockets did not lose the game because of the refs (good to get that off my chest), but that doesn't excuse lousy reffing. Apparently lousy reffing is a problem when you get beat by 2 but isn't one when you get beat by 40?

TMac gets hacked 50 million times without a call but on the other hand, when he's defending Dirk, knocks the ball away as he's going up for a shot (replay shows clearly all ball) and it's FTs for Dirk (who looked like he just got shot). Or how about Wesley's fouls. And all of those were just in the first half. Of course, we all know that the ball is a part of Dirk Nowitzki's arm.

On the other end, Yao spins and brushes Dirk's chest with his elbow, Dirk looks like he's just been sledgehammered and it's a foul... offensive foul.

Let's be honest, the Rockets played godawful, but lousy reffing is lousy reffing, whether we lose by 2 or 40.

What can I say ? Stern and refs fxxx you... many fans even don't know..... I have said it after the first quater last night... "Today's refs are very sly, they hacked rox from the first minute instead of waiting for the last minute" Then when the game went to trash time, they called many ridiculous fouls on mavs to make the fouls on both teams look similar. I was even screaming "oh, no, please, that's not a foul on mav. we don't want and we don't need that foul...." However I remembered before the half game, the fts of mavs is 15/17 while the fts of rox is 6/7.....not metioniong how many calls are destroying the momentum of rox run.....

I hate refs....I don't want to be fooled like idiots.

The main problem I had with the refs is that whenever the Rockets seemed to go on a run, to get back into the game, the Rockets would get whistled for highly questionable fouls, or receive no-calls for clear fouls by the Mavs.

These plays are called momentum breakers, and if they happen enough, they are sure to take the life out of a team and make it very hard to win. The Rockets probably lose game 7 with or without the officiating, because it was clear their legs were too tired to play defense, and the bench production was terrible.

But, imagine David trying to beat Goliath when Goliath is wearing full body armor. This is how I viewed the Rockets/Mavs series at points, because of the ludicrous officiating at times.
