I appreciate the objectivity and clear-headedness from local media types, both on the radio and in print. It can often provide a thought-provoking perspective that most of us hadn't fully considered, but it does seem easy for them to carry it to an extreme, just to become contrarian and "spark" conversation. Short term, this "spark" listeners and readers will care to argue. Long term, that spark will fizzle, and listeners/reader will get tired of it, turning off the radio or ignoring the printed story. Objectivity is welcome, but our local media should not forget who it is they serve... their customers are Houston fans, homers. Most of us here really are homers, even though we each think we're smarter and more objective than the "average" fan, and it's not fun for homers to tune in for the wet blanket day after day. 610am in the afternoon is lucky though... the guy taking calls on 790am can also be a belligerent wet blanket, too.
look, it's easy to critique these guys and I do it as much as anyone, but let's not pretend for a second that 790 is near as good or 610, or that 790 will win out. Local sports talk rules. 790 may have Charlie, but as long at they have a hokey schtick like "The Animal" are are primarily national they won't hold a candle to 610.
I love 790 but I HATE David Dalati...God this guy sucks, his commitment to quality is 0...most of the time he cant even get the teams right that are playing!
I also heard this, and it pissed me off too. This is how playoff games are supposed to be reffed. If they didn't notice, we got completely jobbed in Dallas in game 5. We got calls at home (more like the refs just refused to bail out dallas this time). No need to feel guilty or lucky. I would LOVE to win this series on a terrible call at the end, just to stick it to those damn mavs so they know how it feels. I would also love winning without getting any calls.
Since we're bashing on him....I cannot believe Rich Lord gets paid to talk about sports, that's like asking a vagrant about home mortgages. He is about as clueless about sports as your typical fair weather fan. Some here in the BBS could probably do a better job behind the mike then that CFI. Rich Lord's sport opinions = pile of steaming horse manure
Man, we're turning on Rich Lord like a pack of wolves turn on a wounded elk. A very boring elk. A numbingly dull and ill-informed elk. An elk that has no real knowledge of sports, yet has had plum sportscasting jobs for nearly two decades in a major market.
I just can't listen to the 610 afternoon guys. I know it's bad when even Rich Lord's verbal tics get on my nerves. If I have to hear him refer to EVERY Friday as 'getaway Friday' or begin every promo with the phrase '....Rich here with the heads up for [insert company name or product here]' I'm gonna pummel my radio with a Vermont Teddy Bear.
My preferences #1 Morning Crew John Granato/Lance Zierlein A close 2nd: Nightshift Matt Jackson/Adam Wexler 3rd: Sports Saturday Danny Vera/Rob Costa 4th: Drive Time Players Rich Lord/Marc Vandermeer
Charlie Pallilo is far more entertaining to listen to. He's very intelligent, he is a Rhodes Scholar, and makes excellent points for the most part.
I really never like charley that much. Rich does blow. I would have to go with John and Lance. With Adam wexler and Matt jackson a CLOSE 2nd.
