nice scoop rockhead! saved me $10 on the ticket too. definately going the ways of the indie rock this year. the guys who book acl also bought the rights to lolapalooza and are only doing 1 show, in chicago. lots of the same bands. and when the hell is willie going to play!!! hes the guy who put acl on the map and this is the 4th year of this thing. i heard about crowes, oasis, coldplay and widespread panic (who supposedly are getting headlining slots on 2 different nights - UGHH!). out of that bunch im only a fan enough of the crowes. seen them a couple times and they are great live. i went to the free show they did at the colosium (?) back in early 1992. that one was for the ages. wasnt sure if i was going to go or not, but after seeing the rest of the lineup, im going to go ahead and get mine now. i got in on the $35 tickets for the first 3 acl's, so im not too upset about paying the $85 this time. glad wilco is comming back. they stole the show for me last year. the noisiest thing ive ever seen at acl. like crazy horse and sonic youth.
Knowing the rumors about the black crowes, I'd been hoping the past few weeks that their tourmate for the summer, none other than Mr. Tom Petty would make his ACL debut. No such luck...quite dissappointed in the headliners. And the rest of the line-up shows a heavy reliance on alt-rock and euro pop bands. Not quite the diversity and representive "Austin" flavor that the show has exhibited in past years.
wow, most def. i'm there. i have seen about 40% of these bands live in the past 3 years. some questions: how big is this park? are you allowed to leave, and return as you like? what time of day do they start each day, and what time do they finish? thanks..
HUGE! lots of acreage.... I don't have specifics, you could do a search for Zilker Park, Austin and check it out... yes, with your wristband, don't lose it!! gates at 11:00am, first shows are right around that time... last show ends around 10-11pm
that is not a complete list... there are a lot more playing that I didn't list... check out the festival website or pick up a Houston Press or an Austin Chronicle for the full list.
I just complained to my girlfriend yesterday that I'll probably never get to see M83. Wilco was incredible last year, but no Antibalas, Roots, nor Neko Case this year??? At least I can see the Decemberists for the fourth time in 18 months. Alas, SLEATER-KINNEY!!!
weren't they only $35 when the released the first tickets in march? if so, that would be the greatest deal of all time. heres who i wanna see most: Widespread Panic Oasis The Black Crowes The Allman Brothers Band Wilco Robert Randolph & The Family Band Franz Ferdinand Gov't Mule Robert Earl Keen The Dirty Dozen Brass Band South Austin Jug Band
I got those for the 4th consecutive year. I've only paid a total of $135 for 4 years (the first year was $30 and not including the fees). It's almost ruined going to a regular concert for me. I can't justify paying $50 for 1 band when I can pay $35 for 130 bands. Black Crowes is the main thing I want to see...everything else is just gravy from that point.
here's my list of bands I'm gonna try to see Oasis Coldplay Doves Keane Thievery Corp Death Cab For Cutie Black Crowes Jet Bob Mould Franz Ferdinand Tortoise The Walkmen
