Everyone assumes that Stern is conspiring into eliminating Yao and and the Rockets from the finals. There is evidence that the refs are not playing fairly. There is true and undenyable data right in front of it, and its all wrong. Not to say the refs are or not conspiring, thats not the point, the point is that Stern is not conspiring with them, no no no, he's got an even better idea, conspire against them. Right now Stern has levied biggest fines a coach has ever recieved, why you may ask, because he wants the NBA finals to be Houston vs. Miami. Think about it, drama at its best, Houston, with there backs against the wall, win a decisive game 6 and 7 and surge past the phoenix suns, only to duke it out with the a consistantly dominant San Antonio Spurs. When the dust settles from that fight, Houston remains unscaved only to take on their biggest opponent of them all, Shaquille O'Neil. The Miami Heat may show, they are currently not invited tho. This is TNT, this is ABC, this is better than any movie. The proof is in the pudding, look already, rockets fans, old and young raly behind JVG, believe in Clutch City once again, whether it be out of spite for Stern or plain and simply because they always believed, the I hate Jeff Van Gundy Club is all near gone, and all because of some stupid fine. Stern knew this (espicially the part about the I hate Van Gundy club) and made a conscious decision to do what he did, Jeff Van Gundy was none the wiser. He knew the people of Houston have a level of decency that you don't find in other big towns like Chicago or New York and will rally against an oppressed NBA coach. And he did all of this, so that his dream match up could occure. Kudos to you Mr. Stern, kudos, I salute you!

Orrrr... it is just the same really bad officiating that has always been around, and Stern is just doing his job by fining any one who talks about it to the press.

let's be honest, it is more important that the officials LOOK competent, rather than actually be competent.

It's spelled 'afoot' not 'a foot'.

And yes, I agree with you.

This is a perferct movie script for Oliver Stone, and Dustin Hoffman will star as David Stern.

In the past Stern has shown he likes the team with high offensive pace (which is also more attractive to the fans).

He likes to see Suns in the final, not Houston.

The officiating has been terrible in the NBA for a very long time now. There is a "Star" system of officiating where the big named stars that have been in the league a certain amount of time and have a certain perception receive the benefit of the doubt on calls. This same controversy, talk about NBA conspiracy was a hot issue when the refs clearly cheated in favor of the Fakers during their championship run a few years back and they were down 3-2 to the Kings. In game 6, the Fakers got the most ridiculous call go their way in order for them to win. I remember Kobe on an offensive possession elbowing Mike Bibby in the face and a foul was called on Bibby.

You are delusional if you think the Suns have more following than the Rockets.

As I have said before, we have THE two most marketable players put together.

But if that is Stern's plan, then he is really pushing his luck. As it stands now, every team that had the chance to close out their series did so on the first try. Let's hope the Rockets are the exception

Haha. I still don't believe it's in Stern's interest to single out Yao and Rockets, but rather believe it's the refs who don't necessary have the conspiracy, but all biased towards Yao. But when JVG pointed it out, Stern is worried much more about NBA's image than some Chinese fans' reaction. He had to come out there and protect the refs, and his league, although maybe unwillingly.

I think Danny Devito would be much better at playing David Stern.

While it is true that the referees can control the tempo of a game in one teams favor, it'll still be hard to secure a win if non of the Mavericks players were in on the take as well.
