I have a compaq laptop, with a dvd+r burner(some sony burner) it came bundled with some crap trial cd burning software, i installed nero, and was using it for a few months, then i stopped using it. i tried to burn an audio CD using itunes, and it gives me some crap error called 4280 and spits the cd out. sometimes burning 3 tracks out of 12, sometimes none, just randomly does some wierd stuff. Now nero isnt working at all. and i have no software to run it with. SO, my question is, how do i get my CD BURNER WORKING AGIAN!!! what software to use in this HP bundled driver thing, and any idea how to fix the itunes thing. oh and windows media dont burn either anymore.
lol. I love these questions because it assumes the answer is easy . Every problem is unique and your best bet is to uninstall and then reinstall the program you want to use.
Is your computer still under warranty? You say it "used to" burn data cds. Have you tried burning a data CD since running into this problem? When was the last time it successfully burned an audio CD? If you are running Windows ME or XP, you can perform a system restore back to that time and see how it is working now (you can revert back to your present configuration if that doesn't work). Have you tried googling? I entered '4280 cd burner error' (no quotes) and got a lot of hits with other folks having a 4280 error.
i deleted all my burning software, thats why i cant check anymore, and when i enterd 4280 error, it gives me the error, but the fix doesnt work. and others told me to remove nero, whcih i did, and am afraid to install again. also, the computer is under parts and labor warranty till august. do you think theyll fix this? oh and my charger stops working every 4 - 5 minutes and i have to tweak it around, will that be covered? anyone know?
My guess is the first thing they will ask you to do is to restore the computer to original factory specs. If the problem still exists then they will probably offer a few suggestions and once those are exhausted, they will fix it. Regardless of your CD problem, you should definitiely call about the charger (it could also be the battery). How did you delete the burning software - was it through add/remove in control panel? If so, try reinstalling and then seeing if there is an option to delete through the software itself (If you did it this way originally, then reinstall and delete through add/remove in control panel).
