They are trying to stop the bleeding. If they didn't fine JVG, he might say it again. Or so might the players. A continuation of these sentiments from the coaches or players would be a much bigger PR problem for the NBA than dealing with the backlash of a one-time fine.
Few calls? With the big boss Stern watching with Cuban, and the news of JVG b****ing and got fined. Rocks may get a lot of calls, and IT WILL BE ON THEM.
Well you might be right. The refs might retaliate against the Rockets and give them even less calls but I would hope that a 100K fine gets the Rockets a fair treatment for Yao is nothing else.
This is the only sport (NBA) I love, watch and follow, but this makes me wonder why I should still be a fan of this game if things like the brawl, the racist crap, the player contracts (Spree) and now this fine for JVG why I even care anymore.. I know by not watching the NBA any longer it isnt gonna show them up, but this really makes me think it's not worth the headache of careing about basketball.. As lame as this sounds this day ranks up there with the day Dream left and Rudy retired in terms of bad feelings for basketball... AFTER THIS YEAR, F*CK YOU DAVID STERN... I'M OUT!!!
We don't know what is going to happen, but the league is HATING that Van Gundy did this. The magnifying glass that will be placed on the refs in Game 5.... wow.
Thats good news for Rockets fans in my opinion. If writers and people all over the nation focus on this game then every bad call the refs make will be magnified. Hopefully this will help to keep Yao out of foul trouble.
Frankly, I am a little worried about scrutinizing Yao Ming's plays. Sure, he received many unfair calls against him. But he did get away with many moving picks. If the referees call these moving picks, he will still be in trouble. The true problem is the favourable calls given to Norwiski.
In any society, sports is one of the few places that people can enjoy fair play. David Stern has made NBA his filthy business. It is disgusting.
He didn't just complain. He alleged a consparicy. He didn't just allege a consparicy. He said he has specific knowledge of a consparicy. He has gone way beyond what any coach has complained about.
It means Yao needs to come out and attack the Mavs defenders from the opening tip. He'll still likely pick up some ticky tack defensive fouls. But any flops by Dirk or Dampier while guarding Yao or alleged moving screens will be closely scrutinized by everyone watching this game. Essentially, Dallas is gonna have to shoot lights out, cuz if they expect to win this game with Yao on the bench, they're in for a big surprise.
Funny that only Stu Jackson, the N.B.A's vice president came out doing the evil deed. Where is our main man, Stern? He was all over the TV and news with Yao when the times were good. Hummm...
It's unfortunate that they chose Van Gundy to make an example out of. If they wanted to clamp down, they should start with the deep-pockets, serial offender Cuban. He's the instigator.
That's what I thought would happen when the team started playing at home. This series has been so crazy, nothing would surprise me at this point.
Especially now that they have made it into even bigger news with the record fine - way to quell controversy, NBA, especially under the auspices of Stu Jackson, who has possibly the most astounding record of failure of any highly paid executive on the planet. That's a positive omen for their new policy.
