Does anyone else have any friends like this?

This weekend, I had a gig during Game 4. During our downtime, I was (where else?) in my car listening to it, screaming, pumping fists, cursing...you know, the things that all of us do.

A couple of guys who were subbing with us came up to my window and asked what I was listening to. Of course when I told them, then came the perverbial "oh yeah, what's the score?" question. I told them 85-78 Rockets, 5 minutes left. They acted real interested and I thought to myself, SWEET...always good to meet other Rocket fanatics like myself and now I don't have to listen to the game by myself.

Then one of them said "uh...isn't this the playoffs or something?"

Seriously, I don't mind guys that don't follow sports (even though I think it's weird) but don't pretend like you do when you don't. Having to explain how the playoffs work to a couple of guys while I'm trying to listen to a very stressful game is REALLY annoying.

My friends range the spectrum.A majority love and play sports, but there are some with which I share other common interests. We all respect each other and tend to have a pretty good time no matter what we're doing. It can get rather interesting when I mix these factions of friends, but that's another story.
As far as strangers,I know it's a letdown when your pumped up about a game and some dude or gal has no idea where you are. Most of us just want to share that joy,but there are many things to do in life, and sometimes you just have to take that curveball to the opposite field.

Yeah, I was thinkin' that, too. It's wierd for a guy to not like sports. I have a friend who doesn't follow college or pro sports, but at least he loves to hunt and fish. If you don't like sports or outdoors stuff like the aformentioned, then there is something wrong with you (if you're a guy). Sorry...

When I was watching game 3, some guy came into the room in the dorms and asked who was winning. I told. Then he goes, "Didn't they play each other the other night?"

    I just didn't answer him.

Not really. Hes not gay (not that there is anything wrong with that). Just loves hiking and nature trails. He lived with this one girl for a long time.

Sometimes I wish that I didn't follow sports.

I have a lot of friends that don't follow sports. They are anything but gay. When I hear the "your gay if you don't follow sports" garbage from the meatheads, it makes not want follow it either.

No, it's not the gay thing. I have a friend who is gay and is a huge sports nut. Also, I know there are some gay guys on this site who are the same way. None of my non-sports friends are gay so I don't think that has anything to do with it.

I just think it's weird. I mean, I don't expect everyone to be consumed by it like we all are but I really think guys that don't follow sports AT ALL are really missing out. To not even be a casual sports fan, that way of thinking is just totally foreign to me.

I still can't get over when I asked a friend of mine if he had any Pink Floyd when I was a teenager.

His response: "No, but he's pretty cool"

    "Guys who don't follow sports"

I'm sorry, but my brain doesn't compute this statement and can't even fathom the notion.

Well, there are all kinds of guys. You don't have to follow sports. They just may have different interests. They can still be straight. I've known plenty like that.

Not to mention what we know just from the population of this board: you can be a gay guy and still follow sports. You can be female and still follow sports.

I don't really follow the NFL at all and I never have a clue what's going on in the American League. I follow the NBA because I'm a Rox fanatic, obviously, but football has always been boring to me and there's just way too much baseball out there to care about. As for college sports, Jesus, I only have so many hours of free time!

Rox and Astros are the limits of my sports knowledge, but I pick up enough here and there to get by. But I still, at age 24, have no clue as to what the offensive and defensive line positions in football refer to. Seriously, what the **** does a left tackle do?

I honestly cannot think of any guys i know who do not follow some sports. Whether it's hockey, NFL, Baseball, Basketball or Soccer...it seems they follow at least ONE to some degree. I thought for sure I could think of *somebody* who didn't...but I can't.

    Interesting.
