I agree with what your saying. Boy talk about superstar or no superstar treatment by the refs. Houston only has one Ming. But Dallas has Dampier, Bradely, KVH, and at times King Flopper Nowitzky to play and contain and beat up on Ming. So Ming in every game must play within his alotted 6 fouls or he's out against 3 and half players combined 21 fouls between them. You can say Mutumbo is the other half of Ming, but he's no where near the offensive threat as Ming so Mr Dirk the King Flopper, Dampier etc don't really relinguish alot of fouls guarding Mutumbo. So sadly Ming must play agressive but also reserved thru out the game so that he can score and get timely stops but also not foul out against the combined group of Damp, Bradely and KVH. Very tough, that's why losing Howard and his fouls is bad news for Ming. That is also why the refs giving all these marginal calls on Ming is so absurd, becus Dallas is playing ming like a superstar 3 and 1/2 players on Ming with combined 21 fouls to give but the refs treat him like a 2 bit role player who only has within 6 fouls to give. Very Unjust I would say. Oh I just realized KVH is out so it would be 2 and half players and any other floppers for the Mavs against Ming.
Absurd indeed when the officiating crews damn well know that Dallas' principle defensive strategy against Yao is to muscle him out of being able to establish post position. I mean it's no secret to anyone on either side that Dallas intends to wear Yao out with trips, jabs, 2 hands in the back, forearms to the hips whenever he gets anytime close to touching the ball. Avery doesn't care if his center committee uses 18 fouls to hack him all night as long as it throws Yao off rhythm. The refs HAVE TO KNOW ALL THIS. And yet, they instead habitually bench Yao on frickin offensive fouls whilst he's in the midst of taking said abuse from Mavs defenders. This is why I cannot think of any plausible alternative to these NBA refs being either stupid, blind, rigged, or racist.
I say we just seriously knock down dirk next time and have yao truly elbow him in his face when yao was getting the offensive position with dirk behind him.. Maybe then the ref would be able to differentiate what Dirk looks like when he "really" get fouled.
I say it's time for China to send a message to NBA. If they dont call it fairly, the China NT trainning camp starts right now, and Yao must report right away.
What the Chinese government can do is prohibit any more scouting in China. They won't because of the potential $$$ but that could get David Stern's attention. The games are so close that 1 or 2 plays do determine the majority of games. Imagine if McGrady had held onto that rebound, the game couldve been tied or what wouldve happened had Yao been given the continuation in game 3 or Nowitzki was called for reaching in when he slapped the ball away from Yao. Anything that can give us an edge, we should try. Cuban did it and it worked.
Any player will be consistently in foul trouble if he gets 2 bs calls per game against him, unless he does not defend at all. There will be NO MARGIN for error.
Perception is everything. In the rightous minds of those drunk refs. Yao has to be in foul trouble. How come he's not? He's big, slow, and sometimes commit stupid fouls. So he has to, otherwise, something is wrong. Have you guys noticed that Yao wasn't called much on offensive fouls during regular season? Because Yao was such an easy target at the defensive end, who tries to take charge on every drive, tries to block every dunk. But now, in the playoffs, Yao understands how important he's to the team success, simple by staying in the game. He still commits some stupid fouls, but far less than before. He positions better, he blocks better and cleaner, and his teammates are trying hard to help him. Now, all of the sudden, that Yao couldn't be simply putting into foul trouble at the defensive end. Something is definitely wrong, the refs feel the urge to make it RIGHT, by calling more offensive fouls on him, moving picks, or phantom fouls. Now, he's in foul trouble again. Phew, what a relief, the rightous NBA business is in order again. It's just my opinion.
What we should do before next game: 1) JVG should make it clear to the media that Yao is being refereed unfairly and point out the favorism Dirk Floptski is receiving from the officials. 2) Rox team official should send an edited tape to NBA and Stern. 3) Houston Chronicle should write a story about this biased affair. 4) Someone writes a template letter for us fans to sign and send to NBA and every major sports media outlet by email.
Anyone who doesn't think officiating can make or break a game for a team is not watching NBA, or any sport for that matter. One single call can spell w-i-n or l-o-s-e for a team, just one f'ing call. Imagine what might have happened if by the chance of a billion dollars lottery that the ref made a bad call in *gasp* our favor, and gave the posession to us when Tmac knocked it out of bound in the final 6 secs, 6 secs down by two I really think we have a 40% chance to tie and maybe a 10% chance to win. I'm certainly not saying that it should've happened. One call, that's all it takes, and I'm merely stating a fact. And do officials watch replays? Dirk made the official who called for the elbow looked like a fool; like in soccer if a player has a diving record they barely get any calls anymore, instead they get penalized for faking the foul; one we had tonight was obviously a bad call and flopping on Dirk's part, do the officials in the NBA just go *shrug* and move on
The commentators on TNT said they started to call those borderline moving screens because Cuban is very upset with the "lack of calls on Yao Ming's moving pick." It is terrible. I think Rockets are like a stepchild in the NBA family. The owner needs to be more vocal about things like this
Im from Aus, and follow AFL. My team also has the same Ref, Ump problem. But the thing is, so does evey other team. Its just the way it is. Evey team thinks they are being screwed by the refs, or the refs are out to shaft them. U just have to get over it, and move on. No use getting angry over something that will never change. I rekon other sport codes, would say the same thing about refs, umps. We need to stop blaming refs, and work out the real reason we lost.
Not that I disagree with the fact that everyone thinks they're getting screwed by the refs, because I realize that's certainly true (just look at Johnson last week), but have you watched the last couple of games? The calls have been completely ridiculous.
I think the officiating was awful. I don't have a problems if the ref's want to call a tight game or a loose one, but please, for heavens sake, be consistent on BOTH ends of the freaking floor! The refs were calling ticky-tac touch fouls on the Rocks, but when the Mavs did the EXACT same thing to TMac, the refs swallowed their whistles.
we cannot get over it, because IT refuse to go away. IT hurts us night in and night out, all season long! What you are suggesting is "get used to being screwed and don't complain". I don't know how things work with you, but current NBA is like a bank and some teams rob the bank and guards (refs) help those "courageious" ones robbing us the "lame" ones. This is like the wild west, don't expect justice because there is none. You have to pull out your gun and start killing to get some respect. This is how bad NBA has become.
The refs did make some BS calls but we have to keep our heads up. I still believe! The Rockets had many chances and luck was on the Mavs side today plain and simple. Jason Terry's 3, Tmacs TO, etc etc. We cannot look down, dazed and confused like those two trailer park Mavs fans. Keep ya head up and believe!
You are correct that it is no use getting angry and even though I am notably pissed, I am also just trying to understand the reasoning or logic behind the consistently poor officiating against Yao. After 3 seasons and especially this year as the treatment of Yao has really seemed to snowball, I've putting a lot of thought into what exactly the officiating crews must be basing their calls on. I know that the crews are very well-trained and supposedly have very thorough and extensive post-game reviews of the calls they've made in games. So I have to assume that out of the four possibilities (stupid/blind/rigged/racist) that the first 2 are likely not applicable. Then the fourth one (racist) may or may not apply to a small handful of the dozens of NBA officials, but even so that would not explain the bad calls coming practically night in and night out. That leaves me with 'rigged'. Now by rigged I'm not referring to refs having games or series rigged per se. But specifically catering to what the League as a whole prefers to market and what direction it desires in the grand scheme of things. I have heard from quite a few casual basketball fans over the years about how much they cannot stand Shaq. In a majority of these instances they explain that his presence is unfair to the other teams and he should not even be allowed to play in the league. They contend that someone of his size is an unfair matchup that makes them lose interest in even watching the games. I don't know, maybe the NBA wants to avert having another dominant center end up in the Finals every year. Maybe officiating crews are told to favor run and gun players. I don't know. I hate that I have to resort to these conspiracy theories. But I just can't fathom why Yao is officiated so differently from every other NBA player. I can only wonder what must be going thru Yao's head.
I can deal with some of the fouls, like moving picks and stuff. But if the refs call one more foul when Dirk is dribbling across the top of the key and one of the Rockets touch him as they move sideways, I'm gonna go crazy. The other calls that make me just furious are when Dirk hits a fadeaway and falls afterwards and the refs give him a friggin and 1. The replays make the refs just look plain r****ded.
We all need to take a DEEP BREATH and relax. Yes the officiating has not been great, but it was a lot worst in the first 2 games and we pulled out the wins in Dallas. Yes, I was on the verge of crying after this lost (We need to get that killer instinct and close out) But, look at the 2 loses. We really beat ourselves (with help of a mircle 3 from Terry). We had the game well in hand to take the last 2, but ran into mental lapses that cost us BIG TIME. Look at this game, if we make a free throw, 1 basket, or hold on to a rebound, the game was ours. Have faith.. this is a 7 games series shorten to a best of 3. Dallas, being the team with all the talent and depth, still has not blown us out as some expected in any of the 4 games. The fruit was riped for the picking, and we let it drop right through our hands. JVG will have this team mentally ready for Monday, and if anything, the 2 home loses is showing the team they have to play hard for 4 quarters. Forget the refs .. lets play ROCKET ball and get this done. ROCKETS in 6. STILL CAN'T SLEEP .......
