Getting ready for my girlfriend's grandfather's funeral I was tying my necktie and thought to myself that only know one way to tie a necktie. I also realize that there are at least several other ways to tie neckties and I only know one. The method I know is called a four-in-hand tie. The other methods I know of are Windsor and half-Windsor but I always got frustrated when trying to learn these ways. Anybody want to offer some hints on how to tie those types of knots? I have seen diagrams but they never helped. Oh well, even if I don't lear either of those ways at least I know one way to do it. How many do you know?
There's only one way to tie a necktie: Loop twice. Insert through middle. For any fancy-pancy new ways, try: www.gay.com
seriously... what are you trying for? I'm a businessman. I always wear my tie one way. Are you trying to be formal, or fashionable???
The conservative tie, IMO, has always been the best bet. My bro tried the "neuvou" approach. Didn't work... And now he's stuck with a collar-less tux in wedding pics. Disgusting, when you think of it
said one mafia man to the other before he choked him to death with a necktie. one way. That's the only thing I know. And if my girlfriend wants to experiment with both ways I may have to getta out of there.
I'm 27 and I still don't know how to tie a tie. I always get the salesman/woman to "pre-tie" them for me when I purchase them, then I leave them in that condition in my closet.
I absolutely ABHOR wearing ties. When I first started working at the job I have now, I had to wear them but I went the clip-on route. That ended about 4 months into the job as a co-worker noticed that I was wearing a clip-on and gave me hell about it. I got my dad to show me how to tie one and started wearing regular ties that I had tied myself. I only learned one way and I never was interested in learning other ways to tie these pain in the asses. Now I have gotten back into not wearing ties at all, whether it is at work or at church. The only times I wear them are for funerals or for special occasions where I have to wear a *ugh* suit.
Learning how to tie a tie would require no more than a 15 minute time commitment. drapg -- I would never treat a tie that way, by leaving it tied up in your closet. That's horrible for the condition of the silk/fabric/etc. For fine ties, you should actually roll them (like a toilet paper roll) into a small box if you don't have the space to lay them flat. I no longer wear ties that cost less than $80 each. There are many benefits to dressing well.
damn, you go all out. i only loop once. the less work the better for me. maybe i should just buy a clip-on.
I only know two... one that's thinner for the narrower collars, and one that's thicker for the spreader collars. I mean... there's also better types of knots for different types of ties. but i don't make enough money or go to high enough powered events for it to matter.
