it's a bad point, then. get sued for sexual harassment, and you'll find your sexual activities with other subordinates will come into evidence...it's certainly discoverable. and when you lie about it under oath, we still call it perjury. you can argue he shouldn't have been impeached for it...but this is standard practice. when you're under oath, you tell the truth. when you don't...it's perjury.
meowgi, he lied under oath. he lost his law license (which i realize probably wasn't important to him). he perjured himself. he denied any sexual relationship with her at all....in a case where he was sued for sexual harassment. i haven't heard anyone trot out the, "well he really didn't lie" argument in quite some time, though.
Exactly! That would make a great bumper sticker! If you lie to a grand jury, it's really no big deal as long as no one died.
Max, I agree he committed perjury and should have been punished. I don't mind Paula Jones attornies investigating other activities as well. Of course in the end he was never found to have sexually harassed anyone. What I did have a problem with was the special prosecutor appointed to investigate business irregularities spending so much time and money over something that wasn't sexual harassment. I never suggested that Clinton was innocent of perjury, just that the investigation of him by the special prosecutro became a ridiculous joke.
And if you lie to the American people to justify the invasion and occupation of another country, causing the deaths of thousands of innocent civilians, it's OK, because you're not under oath. After all, 9-11 changed everything!
I would have thought that execution by hanging, or 4 shot firing line, or what have you was now a relic of yesteryear. Not a part of modern international tribunal. War criminals today would instead simply receive life imprisonment. I hear Abu Gharib has a nice facility.
There's no evidence that Bush lied with regard to WMD's in Iraq. Lots of evidence he was wrong, but no evidence he lied (as in he knew they weren't there but said they were anyways). But this is getting off the subject. The joke about Bush getting shot is just redneck humor. It simply shows that liberals have just as much bad taste as anyone else. What's sad is how the moral absolutists on this board will defend something that is cleary in bad taste and wrong when their side does it. Totally takes the moral high ground away from them and exposes them for the partisan hacks they are.
GWB did not care whether he told the truth or not. What was more important to him was the steadfastness of his decision making ability.
There is evidence that he lied, and even covered it up. I'm not saying that it was all a lie, because I believe he did think they had WMD's. But in the specifics he most definitely lied. He quoted an IAEA report that didn't exist. When asked about it, he came out with that he was only mistaken and meant a different IAEA report. It turned out that second one mentioned never existed either. Finally Bush's team came up and said Bush actually meant a report that actually did say something close to what Bush initially claimed. The only problem this time was that the report hadn't even been released when Bush made the initial claim. Bush did lie, and then tried to cover it up. The general statements might have been a mistake, but when we look at the specifics, Bush lied.
I thought this was about someone firing bullets into the president - not about bj's or wmd's. Why can't some hardliners just admit that the joke was in bad taste and go on? Randi Rhoads isn't the mouthpiece of the Democratic Party anyways. I encountered the same kind of cynicism when Clinton went under the knife. It was sort of disturbing to certain people on "my side" joke about it. I didn't vote for the guy - but alot of people did. No matter what, GW and Clinton both served as President. Out of respect for the office, jokes about assassinasions are just in bad taste. That joke (on another thead), about GW's burning library was pretty funny though.
LOL. Maybe I'll start another abortion thread. See how soon the string-pattern "WMD" pops up .. probably more used than "YOF"
Yeah, Clutch should put a moratorium on this place until the Rockets playoff run is over (hopefully in late June) so we can all get along and quit arguing about all this stuff. The Rockets are uniters, not dividers!
