People like this never understand what pmps up the masses. Who cares about live music when it comes to this? As long as the beat is bangin' and the lyrics are hyped, that all is takes to get me up for intros. Jeff, you can be such an old fogey sometimes.
The Texans don't use that. The Astros don't use that. By the way, I asked the Rockets about Won't Get Fooled Again way back when they first started using it and they checked around the league for people using it. It had only been used by one or two teams in the past and none currently. Yeah, I'll remember that the next time I hear some house music at the Astros game. Besides, if you think that is the only thing that will "pump up the masses," I guess we can get rid of all college marching and pep bands, ditch all the rock stuff they play at the end of NBA games...the list goes on. I don't like the Who because they are old. I wasn't even born when that song came out. I would be fine cranking anything modern as long as the bulk the song doesn't emerge fully formed from a plastic synthesizer.
Nothing, I mean NOTHING pumps up the crowd like Shot through the heart, CLAP CLAP...CLAP CLAP CLAP...CLAP CLAP, the mexican hat dance song, and of course everyone's favorite jam...HAVA NAGILA. Just mentioning these tunes has got you guys pump..don't lie.
I also think "Won't Get Fooled Again" is awesome and they did play it last year. It's just that the many empty lower bowl seats takes away from the ambience. But tonight will be rocking from the get go. Houston Native
Now, that's funny. Of course, they still play the Chicken Dance at lots of games. Nothing gets you off your ass like a good ol' fashioned polka.
You know what's weird? At Fenway, they play "Sweet Caroline" at the end of the eighth inning. And everyone, even these grizzle, smart-ass Bostonians, sings along. It's an amazing thing. I would never, ever sing Sweet Caroline (or even admit I know the words) in any other situation.
ALLLLLRIGHT HOUUUUUSTON!!!! GET ONNNN YOURRRR FEEEET, AND PREPARE FOR A ROCKETSSSSSS LIFTOFFFFF!!!! 5......4.......3.....2......1!!!!! BEST EVER!!!!!!!
I can't believe that doesn't get you nostalgia-like hyped up! Those drummer guys sucked A$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$. BTW, does anyone have a clip of the old CG Rockets intro with that music? I have it on a hard drive that I can't seem to get access to anymore.
Game 4 against Seattle in 96....when they dimmed the lights, flashed a "I still believe sign", and started playing the theme music, the crowded starting rocking so hard... That was Houston's finest moment as a sportstown...instead of booing their team down 3-0, down by 17 points, playing like garbage....they stood up and started cheering. I've never seen a basketball crowd just lift a team up like that and sure enough they start playing like champions again. A bit too little too late, but I really thought that if Robert Horry hadn't fouled out in OT, Houston would have made it back from that 3-0 hole. You could see the shock and horror in George Karl's face when the game went to overtime, he looked sick. I think he really believed Seattle was in trouble. They were scared of Houston....as Gary Payton said afterwards..."You can't just beat the Houston Rockets, you have to kill them" Never diss the song dude.
sorry, that original song was super lame, and I hated hearing it blasted with 1000 watts at the stadium...since when was our team, or our city, summed up by Euro-Trash speed freak anthems? The Who don't really sum up Houston all that well, but at least that song has history, or at least a modicum of good taste, on its side.
