LOL. I am dating a 22-year old, but I think I am a few years older than you, even . But she found three grey hairs on one of my temples . Also, the thing with the professional athletes being younger than me bothers me, too.
Hmph, age is nothing but a number. I'm-- well, I'm not going to tell you, but I'm that age, and I look 25 and I feel 16, meaning I am covered in oozing greasy pimples, I masturbate 9 times a day, and my voice sounds like it's hooked up to Jimi Hendrix's whammy bar.
Let me just say that I am old enough to remember Jimi Hendrix's career from start to his untimely demise. BTW, I was born before Jimi Hendrix
Things i've noticed as i've gotten older not so much an exact Ahh Ha(!) moment... Jumping - the hops went away at some point in my late 20s - it just doesn't feel good to even try to jump high anymore. Sprinting - the explosiveness isn't there anymore - maybe it could come back if I sprinted as much as I did in my younger years, but I doubt it. This my friends can be trouble on the plains of the Serengeti. Food - Can't eat just anything anymore - not only will I gain weight, but I just feel bad after a high fat/ greasy meal. Hearing - Oh boy - i'm pretty much deaf in my left ear and have some loss in my right. Generally it's not a problem except in crowds - I have trouble picking out the words among the chatter. All the pro athletes I have grown up with have retired or are nearing retirement. Also, the go for broke attitude (especially on a mtn. Bike) has gone away - risk taking in general is way down from the teens and twenties. Some of the positives: I'm much stronger now than I ever was even though I probably work out less overall. I've become very ambidextrous, but this is probably just through years of practice. I have less muscle pain and aches especially my back through more mellow and focused workouts. I'm much more rational.
AggieRocket, you're one of the handful of members here who lived "back in the past," like I did... heck, around 60, right? About five years older than me. Did you get to see Jimi? I feel a bit guilty now, voting for Dylan when it came between Bob and Jimi in Manny's contest, after fighting tooth and nail to get people to realize that he wasn't just a genius with the guitar... the genius with the guitar, but was in a group, and wasn't a solo artist, which was why I voted for Bob at the end. You've stayed out of those contests, which are fun (thanks, Manny and Win), but also frustrating. Did you get to see him? Just curious. Except for my friends who went with me the three times the Experience played in Houston, and the one time Band of Gypsies did, I don't know anyone else personally who saw him live. That's a bit weird to me. It must be the ages of the members here, of course. They missed so much, and far more than just Jimi. Were you able to go to a lot of concerts? Or did Nam take you away from much of the scene back then.
Deckard, unfortunately I was not able to see Jimi play live. I really wish I could have. From what I have heard, seeing Jimi live was unreal!!! You had a lot of great guitarists from that time (Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Page, Pete Townsend, Duane Allman, etc.), but no one could give you a "live" experience like Jimi. People today really missed out on listening to those greats from the 50's, 60's and 70's. Nowadays, you hear people saying that the Edge from U2 is one of the great guitarists. Taking nothing away from the Edge, he is not even in the same league as Hendrix, Page, and Allman. You have to post to describe your experience seeing " The Experience." I am envious of you
I saw him twice, once with The Experience and once With Band Of Gypsies. I can't remeber the exact year of the first show but it was an awesome display of prowess, however the lighter fluid on the guitar thing had sort of become cliche', like The Who busting up their equipment at the end of every show. I saw Led Zepplin from row #1 in the midde in '73. I spent the whole night having to to look straight up into the rolled up sock stuffed in Robert Plant's jeans.
I finally realized I wasn't a spring chicken anymore on my 40th birthday, in 2001. Someone I was having drinks with mentioned to me "Do you realize that people born in 1980 are now old enough to drink?" That was all it took...I've officially been an old fart ever since!
Two things, Playing in the CF.net pick-up and having my shoulder dislocate after a clean strip by macalu. I will be having surgery on it in 4 weeks. One night, I woke up, starting walking until I made the den, then inexplicabily, my entire left leg became numb and I fell and leaned to the back end of the couch.
My wife, who is a bit older than me, saw Jimi - I think at the Coluseum, but I could be wrong. She saw a number of legendary bands, including one concert that got shut down by the police (can't recall who it was). Her best band/concert story is that ZZ Top played at her after prom party - she graduated from Waltrip in 1970. As far as the older part, I'll go with Faos. I'll never forget when the barber started trimming stuff besides what was on top of my head. I was thinking, WTF?
Well, I'm 20 and already have chronic back problems... mostly from guarding the 270-pound guy every day for 2 hours throughout high school. Damn I'm stupid.
Right now when I look at college girls they look so unbelievably young. It doesn't seem like too long ago that I thought they were so much older looking than me.
Age 25 : I was called "sir" for the first time. Age 29 : I found out I had high blood pressure. At 23 it was normal and I was fit and eating like a pig. lol. Age 33 : Back surgery for a herniated disc. It's gonna be downhill from here... But on the plus side, I'm not as broke as I was when I was younger, so I got that going for me... lol.
Ok, I just had another "old moment". I just realized I'm now older than 3 of my teachers were in my senior year of high school. *sigh*
