From Sunday's Chronicle: http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/ssistory.mpl/sports/bk/bkn/3151566 "At a team dinner the Rockets had at a local hotel before Saturday's win, every player was given a chance to speak and offer thoughts and words of encouragement to the group. When Barry spoke, he said he didn't think this team could win. He knew it could. He looked at every teammate with that dark, penetrating stare of his and said: 'This is the most confident I've ever felt about a group of guys. This is the best team I've ever been on. Understand what we can do.' " Wow. I truly hope that some of these great veterans- Barry, Mutombo, Wesley- get a chance to get a ring this year or next.
Barry has always been one of my favorite players. He does the little things, plays smart, hits open shots, and is a very good passer. He is what every team needs.
The kind of chemistry the Rockets have right now is amazing. Isn't it strange - we talked for years about how we needed to be patient, and wait for chemistry to develop among guys like Francis, Mobley, Cato, Mo Taylor, JJ, and Yao...but it never did. And then, in a couple of months, we have great team chemistry with a totally new set of recently acquired players.
i always have respect for Jon Barry. I use to watch some denver games last year and he always hustled and did small things that don't show up. Its players like Barry, wesley, Mutombo, padgett, sura that make a team different. They know what they must do and they do it with flying colors. I am just happy that J.B is here and helping Houston to reach a level that they have never reach in this century. Also big props to CD for bringing him here for Tyron lue
That's a nice read. I love the quotes from this team; there's been so many positive ones. Also, that's a great point, haven; I didn't even think about that this season until you just mentioned it. The chemistry thing wasn't just last season, but Steve, Cat, and Mo were talking about the chemisty for multiple seasons. The Rockets teams of recent years (even though I thought they were really awesome 'cause I always have the utmost of confidence in my Rockets) just weren't pieces that fit together. One thing the recent Rockets teams were great at was making excuses.
thats a great great point chemistry is important. but solid fundamentals and making the smart play; instead of the harder highlight real play is even more important.
I want this group to win a championship. There are some very deserving players on this team for all the hard work they have put in the league while being true professionals. I love how the team handles itself. They dont bad mouth the other team even when they crush them. A lot of credit for this goes to JVG. He respects other teams and expects the players to do the same.
Props to the CD/JVG combo. Back in early December, I would never have imagined such a team-oriented roster in my wildest dreams.
Last summer I was really hoping for Brent Barry - now I'm glad we got Jon. After Brent signed with the Spurs, I wanted the Rockets to sign Mike James - instead we signed Charlie Ward. I'm also glad that decision was reversed.
haven, you're right. You're absolutely right. I was one of those who preached patience for the developing chemistry. We had the talent, so we just needed to wait and watch the chemistry come together and we would vault to the next level. It never seemed to happen. Chemistry is something that doesn't come overnight. And yet... here are our Rockets displaying an uncanny sense for each other. This is a group of guys that were all on different teams last year playing like they've been together for years. It's really unbelievable. I think Barry sees it and wants to make sure nobody takes it for granted and misses this opportunity.
Barry brings hustle, enthusiasm and basketball smarts to the floor. I love watching that guy play. Tyrone Lue only brought an uncanny resmblance to Kim Perrot. That trade was a steal.
Yeah, me too. I thought Brent was the answer at PG and I couldn't believe he signed with SA who already had Parker. Now with hindsight being 20/20, I think we ended up with the better Barry. Come to think of it, I remember a certain Clutch Administrator lobbying for Brent all summer long. He even had it in his sig! Maybe it will show up in the 'classic moments' quotes
I'm glad we got rid of the trash to get a player who has heart and determination to win it all. Makes me tear up....
Steve, Cat and the old crew had chemistry off-court that didn't translate on-court. I'll take the on-court chemistry.
