DELAND, Fla. - A skydiving cinematographer was killed after his legs were severed in a midair collision with the airplane he had jumped from, authorities said. Albert Wing III had already deployed his parachute Saturday when he struck the left wing of the DHC-6 Twin Otter propeller plane at about 600 feet, a witness on the ground told police. Both of Wing's legs were severed at the knees, but he managed to maneuver his parachute and land near the DeLand Airport, about 40 miles north of Orlando, DeLand Police Cmdr. Randel Henderson said. He was airlifted to a hospital, where he later died, Henderson said. Fourteen other skydivers were in the air at the time of the accident, Federal Aviation Administration spokeswoman Holly Baker said. The plane landed safely. The FAA and National Transportation Safety Board were investigating. Authorities said they were not certain whether Wing had been filming at the time of the accident and no camera was found. http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tm...=/ap/20050424/ap_on_re_us/brf_skydiver_killed 600 feet? What was that plane doing there?!?!
Maybe the pilot was flying low so someone could catch the pack of falling Bud Light. You know how those pilots are for Budweiser if you saw that commercial that ran during the Super Bowl. Seriously, though, that's too bad that guy had to go out like that.
I know I've seen a video somewhere of somebody whose legs were severed in mid-air but he survived. I remember it being pretty grizzly, but it was one of those things I felt compelled to watch. One thing I wish I had not watched was video footage of that American civilian in Iraq that got his head severed. Very sad and disturbing....
What an awful thing to go through. I am not skydiving anytime soon. There are apparently lots of bad things that can happen to you, and not just the ones you think of first...
unless that's some quote from a movie or something, then i'm going to guess the people on the ground, emt's and physician's gave the whole first-aid thing a shot.
awh I want to go skydiving if I hear of to many more incidents I probaly will have to change my mind.
Im also pretty sure he lost a lot of blood on the way down from the 600 feet...getting 2 limbs severed off like that should produce a bit of blood flow
I saw one too. It was actually two, trained Navy parachuters who did stunts and they did a speed dive where they were supposed to cross but ended up hitting each other, I think one died but I cannot remember for sure.
I had a family friend nearly die skydiving yesterday morning. He's in his late 50's and "forgot" everything the instructors taught him about landing... he didn't flair or roll or anything. He's okay, just has a pretty badly broken leg (not severe)... very lucky. On a side note, my father used to competitive skydive in the 70s and 80s, until he lost one too many friends. It's a lot different now, but still dangerous that's for sure... but I'll be doing it in a few years I'm sure, lol.
I'm tired of people always telling me to "take chances" with my life and "experiment with new things." Well, see what it did to this guy. I'd like to stick to my TV-watching-missionary-position-plain-vanilla-ice-cream life, thank you very much.
I'm pretty sure there's a difference between skydiving and ordering something besides #4 at McDonald's.
Even on Road Rules TV Show, the Kit Hoover year, some guys shoot would not open and they had to rely on the reserve. It worked. Scary tho'.. I' ve done it and had a lot of fun. I probably won't do it again just cause I got my thrill and I 'm done. But it was well worth it. I've have a nice video and everything. It's not risking your life according to the Federal Government. It's a sport. And believe me, they know.
