I for one, look forward to this getting figured out for two reasons: 1. So I can stop seeing it in every LA Times and New York Post. 2. So we can see what Phil can do without a pre-made pairing of two top 5 NBA players. Evan
I think he stays retired, there is no ready made championship team for him to latch on to and he won't ruin his winning % by going to a start up.
The bridge between him and Kobe has been burnt to the ground and roadblocks have been put up, so he's not going back to LA. New York just plain sucks Cleveland doesn't have another star to go along with Lebron. Honestly, the only places I see him ending up right now are Miami, San Antonio, Phoenix, and Houston, but all four of those coaches have pretty secure jobs. If the Mavs get waxed by Houston in the first round, I think Avery might be gone and Dallas might go after Phil, but that's a long shot.
Detroit. Larry Brown will quit after losing interest and Jackson will take his place for a chance at a 10th ring.
Does everyone just ignore that he was PROMOTED with the Bulls? After that he EARNED the right to take any job he wants, so he took the Lakers. Now? Who knows what he wants, he's said that he won't come back unless he feels the need to coach again, I'm sure most will say he's just waiting for a great team though. I believe his dream job is the Knicks, his dream team is the Rockets, and in the end he'll take the Knicks job once Thomas is canned.
Where's the "To hell" option? Screw Phiiiiil. I dislike him so much. He is the luckiest coach there's ever been. He woulda never done crap had it not been for MJ and Shaq+Kobe. I hope he stays out of the league.... Although, it would be nice to see him come back to the league and try a coach a team that doesn't have 2 of the top players in the NBA on it's roster, and then we would all see him inevitably fail to get another title (since he's supossed to be the guy you go to when you want a title). There's no way he'd ever win one again in the next decade anyways. JVG is already the coach of the Rockets.
I think he stays retired until a better opportunity comes up. If he thinks Kobe has a selfish attitude, he should try coaching Starbury. Sooner or later, a job will open up with a contender. Maybe Detroit, when Larry inevitably moves on (with him, usually sooner rather than later).
