There is a deal in the works for the Bulls to bring in Oakley from the Raptors via trade. Here is what the trade would look like. Bulls get: Charles Oakley 2002 2nd Round Draft pick Raptors get: Brian Skinner They were trying to get the deal done late Thursday but should be finalized Friday. ------------------ Question about a Tree? Go to the 5th Ward and tell Daryle I sent you.
The deal is now complete. Here is a link: http://www.dailyherald.com/sports/bulls_story.asp?intID=3708546 Bulls get a veteran forward to sure up a inexperienced front line. ------------------ Question about a Tree? Go to the 5th Ward and tell Daryle I sent you.
Good move on the Bull's part. A tough, grizzled veteran to show the ropes to the new studs; not to mention it picks up some rebounding slack now that Brand gone.
Eddie Robinson and now Oakley? I wonder what this means for Fizer... ------------------ Raef to Rocks in '01-'02!
Isn't Eddie Robinson a SF!? ------------------ "Instruments are like women: After a while, you want to make love to another." - Nicolas Godin of the musical duo Air
Horrible deal for Toronto. Remember they gave up Camby to get Oakley, now all they have to show for it is Brian Skinner. Bulls add a decent veteran at the end of his career. ------------------ "Oh No..." -Bill Walton in 97 just before Stockton's buzzer beater
Look like the Bulls have finally realized their mistake in trading Oak for Bill Cartwright back in 88. ------------------ I'm so amazingly cool you could keep a side of meat in me for a month. I am so hip that I have difficulty seeing over my pelvis.
Mistake? Cartwright was the starting center on three championship teams...his defense was indispensible... ------------------
I agree with you GB. Cartwright a valuable piece of the puzzle on those Bulls teams. He bought into the system, unlike Oak, and 3 titles were the result. ------------------ Anger is a weed. Hate is a tree.
Man that was an unpopular trade. But that GM, whoever he was, sure knew what he was doing... ------------------
Ease up, chief. It was a joke. Next time I'll throw in one of these ---> ------------------ I'm so amazingly cool you could keep a side of meat in me for a month. I am so hip that I have difficulty seeing over my pelvis.
I'd have to respectfully disagree with you, Baqui. I believe that this deal frees up cap room for the Raps and will more than likely allow them to resign Jerome Williams to a long term deal. I think at this stage, Williams [who is only 28] will be more of an asset to TOR than Oak. I absolutely LOVE the way Williams plays. He hustles every second he's on the floor, plays stout D, and fights to the bitter end for every loose ball and rebound. By keeping him and AD, the Raps will have a nice frontline for the next few years. ------------------
The relevance escapes me. ------------------ Rockets need power forward. Mo near now. Go near Mo. You can Run from the bet, you can Rave at the bet...but you just can't hide.
Actually, the move from the Raptors point of view has more advantageous ramifications than seen at first glance. The Raptors are currently in negotiations to re-sign their young PG Alvin Williams, and their only substantial competition for his services are, or more accurately were, the Bulls... With the addition of Oakley's 6 mill salary (approx), following their signing of Eddie Robinson, the maximum offer that Chicago can offer Alvin Williams is around 5 million. This removes their ability to outbid the Raptors, thereby reducing the compensatory pay increase the Raptors would have to make in order to keep him, by lowering his negotiation leverage...In that respect, Raptors GM Glen Grunwal (who I am beginning to think is a rising star in the GM game) has possibly made a very strategic move, and Skinner's contract is up at the end of the year, whereas the repercussions of being able to re-sign Williams for 5-6years for reasonable money will last much, much longer... ------------------
Didn't he finish his career with as many rings as the Dream? To bad nobody will remember. All they'll remember is Michael Jordan. The sad thing is, Luc Longley and Bill Wennington got more run the last title run, then Cartwright did the first! So Cartwright has more rings then Dream, Dream will be remembered and inducted into the Hall-of-Fame. ------------------ "Instruments are like women: After a while, you want to make love to another." - Nicolas Godin of the musical duo Air [This message has been edited by RocksMillenium (edited July 13, 2001).]
By the way, Bill Cartwright was severely underrated. He was a pretty good defensive center, especially against Patrick Ewing. ------------------ "Instruments are like women: After a while, you want to make love to another." - Nicolas Godin of the musical duo Air
Fizer and Artest will likely be gone come October 31st. Trading Oakley wasn't so much a move to improve the Raptors, but more so to appease Vince Carter. IMO, Carter didn't like having Oakley criticize him, and perhaps one of the stipulations of him re-signing was the absence of Oakley, which also will lead to more playing time for his buddies Jerome Williams and Keon Clark. It's a good trade for both teams. ------------------ matirmama, alabdhabhuumikatva [This message has been edited by tacoma park legend (edited July 13, 2001).]
They've already come to terms on a deal... And how did the Bulls trade Skinner so quickly, don't you have to wait some time? ------------------ The title will come to ClutchCity once again.
Doesn't it seem that Oak was given away kinda cheaply? Him AND a second rounder for Skinner? AND Toronto is paying part of Oaks salary for the season. The buzz around Chi-town is that the second round pick and the money for his salary are a wink-wink deal between Krause and GG for the Bulls to pull up and away from the AW sweepstakes so his leverage is gone. ------------------
IMHO you can't even mention Cartwright in the same breathe as the dream when it comes to careers and stats. Besides, lots of people have more rings than the dream...like Rodman, and Paxson and so on... Cartwright will get some more time in the light though. He's the next head coach of the Bulls... ------------------
