Basically, FSN decided to raise their fee by about 45 cents per month per subscriber and Cox and other cable companies just out of Houston don't want to pay it or raise rates to cover it since Astros and Rockets fans are a minority. So, 40 Astros games this year won't be shown starting with the rest of this weeks games.

I hope McCain beats the cable industry with the same bat he used to go after baseball.

His call for "a la carte" cable plans is smart. Instead of being all-or-nothing, pay for the particular channels you want. HBO would cost something like $3/month, Comedy Central $1.50/m, ESPN $2/m, and USA would be $0.20.

Then if FSN does a rate hike because they feel they draw more viewers, the viewers can decide if it's too high or not. Really would weed out crap channels.

Sounds like a reason to go home for the summer.

hey, i don't know how it is now, but when I was at Baylor in the early to mid 90's, i got ZERO local telecasts of Rockets or Astros games. ZERO. if they weren't on some national programming, i was left driving around listening to the final minutes/innings of games in my car. sad...but true.

particularly sucks when you consider that was the glory years of the Houston Rockets!

Sounds like a reason to switch to Dish or DirecTV.
