that old coach, I forget his name. edit: I mean, of course, Al McGuire. ------------------ I've been reading movies since 3 o'clock.. [This message has been edited by Achebe (edited January 26, 2001).]
Okay, I've heard the phrase "If the maid's ankles are dirty, the wine is good." Which translates to she put a lot of energy and hard work into stomping the grapes, so the wine has to be good. But I can't for the life of me figure out the translation to "If the waitress has dirty ankles, the chili is good." Its got to mean the same thing. right? ------------------ 'Deeds, not words, shall speak me.'
It was Al McGuire phrase. He passed away from a battle with leukemia, yesterday. He was a great basketball coach and announcer. Many McGuireisms. Do you have anything you remember about him...post it here. PhiSlammaJamma I "white knuckler" is a reaction to suspense. You know how fans in attendance have a tendency to clench their hands in close endings, or grab their knees. Clenching your hands turns your knuckles white. There is a Reliant Energy guy who does it. As a kid, I used to knot up my hands in a superstitious manner. [This message has been edited by heypartner (edited January 26, 2001).]
Wow... thanks for the news HP... ------------------ "There are three kinds of lies: Lies, Damned Lies, and STATISTICS..." - Mark Twain -
hp, my favorite would have to be the time he was dancing with the team who'd just advanced to the Final Four. I can't remember the team though. ------------------ visit www.swirve.com, coming January 20th, the top 10 films of 2000! http://www.geocities.com/clutch34_2000 for great Rocket insight by some of your fellow BBS posters!

My fondest memory is all the "Coach has got to take a timeout here to quiet this crowd." That is why he loved Digger Phelps, because Digger always made him look good by calling the timeout seconds after Al suggested it.
What does the phrase mean, because unless it's describing somebody hitting somebody else I don't get it. ------------------ humble, but hungry.
I was trying out a joke, ehhh? You had posted 'Al McGuire passed away, yesterday.' after we had guessed Al McGuire for having coined the phrase... I was joking that he couldn't have coin... ahh, nevermind. ------------------ I've been reading movies since 3 o'clock..
