I'm gonna have to go with The Thin Red Line. Amazing stuff -- 'specially Journey to the Line. Fits really well with the movie...great work by Hans Zimmer. I was hoping he'd duplicate magic with the Gladiator soundtrack, but aside from Earth and Elysium (and a handful of others), it just sorted fell flat. Braveheart and Last of the Mohicans also deserve mentions -- two amazing cd's. Howabout y'all? What soundtracks are y'all getting into these days? ------------------ It doesn't matter if I have a signature! [This message has been edited by Stone Cold Hakeem (edited January 25, 2001).]
The new George Clooney movie, Oh Brother.., is said to have some great Bluegrass music if you're into that which from the looks of your choices doesn't seem to be the case. I recently saw Snatch and it sounded as if the soundtrack would be worth buying. ------------------
I dig bluegrass -- not something I go out of my way to listen to but its not something I'd be inclined to turn off if it popped on the radio either. I guess I've just been around orchestral music so long, I don't know any better. ------------------ Hey now, Hey now, don't Dream it's over...
I agree about Braveheart and The Thin Red Line. Excellent buys. I plan on getting The Thin Red Line one as soon as I can. I also own the following Soundtracks: 1) Elizabeth- One of my favorite movies. Should have won the Oscar in '99 (both picture and music...not too mention Cate Blanchett), IMO. Excellent retooling of Mozart's Requiem. 2) English Patient 3) The Talented Mr. Ripley- Minghella doesn't make the greatest of films all the time, but he sure pays attention to the music. The Talented Mr. Ripley fits the bill. Aside from a horrific track performed by Damon (sorry, but stick to your current career), it is excellent. Not a single bad track. 4) That Thing You Do- I bought it right when it came out a few years ago, as I was really into the 60's pop scene at the time (have no idea why...dad's Beatles influence?). I still play it from time to time. Good stuff, albeit a bit on the silly side. 5) Saving Pricate Ryan- Was a bit disappointed by the movie (hype mostly), but excellent CD. Highly recommended. ------------------ Nederland 2002 Rocketman95 on board. Check out his latest game recaps.
Anything Peter Gabrial does. But mostly his soundtrack to the movie "Birdy". I also like Danny Elfman's soundtracks. ------------------ 'Deeds, not words, shall speak me.'
Actually, what you guys are describing aren't soundtracks. The terms have changed a little. Traditionally, a soundtrack is what you are talking about here - the soundscape music (usually classical) behind the action, but that changed in the 60's when pop music began being used in he background of songs. Since then, sountrack is used to describe the songs either played in the film or just featured on the soundtrack. Nearly always, these are pop songs. What you guys are describing is the "original score." Many films have both an original score AND a soundtrack today. American Beauty is an example of a film with an amazing score AND a cool soundtrack. Any film like Braveheart that has no pop music on it will just call its CD release a soundtrack, but it is featuring music from the score because there are no pop songs and no reason for a soundtrack as we think of it today. Sorry for nit picking. ------------------ Me fail English? That's unpossible.
I dig the Quentin Tarantino Soundtracks... Pulp Fiction Resevoir Dogs, etc... rH ------------------ The Psychedelic Groove House of Rockets Basketball Love! Some great soundtracks that are: Dune Explorers Army of Darkness Indiana Jones (any of them) Star Wars Jurassic Park (Hell, just about anything with John Williams) And by the way, Oh Brother does have a great soundtrack. ------------------ "Of course, everything looks bad if you remember it!" Homer Simpson
High Fidelity Pulp Fiction Less Than Zero Snatch ------------------ "He was under more balls than a midget hooker."-Bobby Hill visit www.swirve.com, coming January 20th, the top 10 films of 2000! and, http://www.geocities.com/clutch34_2000 for great Rocket insight by some of your fellow BBS posters!
In terms of the pop music soundtracks (as opposed to scores), here are some good ones: Reality Bites (great early 90s music) Forrest Gump (wide selection) Clerks (I just like the Chewbacca song) My fave tho is still Pulp Fiction. Great music plus those sound clips from the movie. ------------------ I am Jack's utter lack of surprise. www.clutchtown.com
Dancer in the Dark has a cool soundtrack. So does Maelstrom. ------------------ I've been reading movies since 3 o'clock..
What?? No Grease??? just kidding!!! I love the soundtrack to "Mo' Better Blues"...if you like jazz music, pick it up. Someone already said the soundtrack to Pulp Fiction...agreed. Same with Star Wars...particuarly the Empire Strikes Back. Damn, i can't wait for the next Star Wars movie!!! The forces of a good against an evil force that pushes taxation and bureaucracy across the galaxy!!! ------------------
The problem w/ the empire wasn't taxes. The Old Republic, the Empire and the New Republic all taxed their peoples. The Republic's creed: planets unite! The Empire's creed: planets unite or I'll shoot! ------------------ I've been reading movies since 3 o'clock..
Oooo.. Movie Soundtracks.. My favorites are: Conan the Barbarian Rocky 4 Bloodsport Kickboxer ------------------ My dream job is to be a Houston Rockets towel boy.
i like the mission impossible 2 soundtrack myself... ------------------ How Sweet It Is! How Sweet It Is! Gene Peterson on the rockets winning the 1995 championship over the Orlando Magic
Oh yes, how did I forget to mention Fight Club?!! The song featured in the final scene, The Pixies, "Where is my mind?" is so fitting and awesome. What a great ending to a great movie. ------------------
Achebe - Actually, Episode I deals with the taxation of trade routes. The Trade Federation was the vehicle for evil in that movie. That combined with a legislative body that solved every problem by bottling it up in committee created a perfect power vacum (i know that can't be spelled right!) for a tyrant to do away with the Republic and establish the Empire that you know and love! Similar to Stalin..ride the back of the liberal do-gooders because you know they'll assume tasks that require immense government power...than kill of the do-gooders as quickly as possible and establish a reign of terror! Read "The Road to Serfdom"...though I think your politics will lead you to disagree with it, it's a fascinating read. ------------------ [This message has been edited by MadMax (edited January 26, 2001).]
