Ok, guys. Just wanted to share some numbers with you on various things all Rockets related: payroll, team value, revenues, player salaries, etc. Here is an interesting thing that I saw discussed a while back in another thread: the Rockets are 13th in Payroll, yet they are 3rd in value/revenue only behind the obvious: Lakers and Knicks (I was shocked to know they are ahead of the Bulls). Most shocking stat I found? Well, the Rockets have experienced the LARGEST jump in team value than any other team in the league (33% jump in value ALONE from last year!!!). It's debt/value % is not too bad: 19% (not bad): http://www.forbes.com/lists/results...ory1=category&category2=category&passKeyword= Rocket's revenue growth was over 52.4% !!!! http://biz.yahoo.com/ic/44/44427.html So all in all, what I gathered is that Les Alexander must be riding high right now, the team is in excellent financial standing, when you compare them to the rest of the league. Also, here are some sites that can help you figure out the Rockets' payroll and individual salaries/median salaries/etc. I hope some of this stuff is helpful for those who are interested in these numbers. For Team Payroll: http://www.usatoday.com/sports/basketball/nba/salaries/totalpayroll.aspx?year=2004-05 For player's salaries: http://www.usatoday.com/sports/bask...=2004-05&team=9
They're first in added value to the franchise this year, up 33%. That's unheard of. It's the starpower of Yao and Tracy
Undoubtedly! That is why, despite the common perception that the owner somehow "loses" money by paying max to these two guys, these guys MORE than earn their salaries, in fact, they should get payed even more So you have to spend money to make money
What they do do though is take up cap space. Thats a different matter since it affects who else you can sign. If they attract vets to play here for the min, then they certainly earn their max by this measure as well.
Looks like we need to eliminate the Mavericks from the playoffs to leapfrog them and move up to #3 on the list. If Les Alexander cares about basketball he'll keep the team, if he cares about $$$ he will be selling them in the next 4-5 years. It would be a tough decision that is for certain. Clearly he must re-sign Yao to retain this position because surely our global appeal has to have some hand in this just like it does with the Mavericks.
